Optifast Soup Question

I started my liquid diet yesterday and I'm starving!!!!  lol  Ok, now that that's been said...on the Optifast diet I can replace one shake a day with one soup.  For variet I decided to get one soup for each day and glad I did because the shakes tend to get really sweet after a while.  Thought I was addicted to sweets but maybe not.  Anyway I mixed up one of the soups last night like it says on the box "stir vigorously with a spoon".  Well let me tell you I'm not one to enjoy a soup without something to chew but I'd rather it not be hunks of powder!  No matter how "vigorously" I stirred there were still chunks.  Can I use a stick blender to solve this problem?

Oh, another question...is jello considered a liquid?  I've been told by several people that it is but want to make sure I'm not breaking the rules.
Thanks,
Ginny

Yes Ginny jello is considered a clear liquid.  I hate jello but its definetly what they call a free food. Make sure you get the sugar free though.

When I do the protien soups I put the powder in my bowl and then add ho****er and mix with a wisk. You can also stick blender. Also you should be able to add spices like Mrs. Dash to add flavoring.

I am on day 4 and has been hard because I am at home just hanging out. It is a 3 day weekend for me. I go back to work on Tuesday, work Tuesday and Wednesday and then surgery is Thursday.

I know what you mean about being at home.  I'm home until Thursday - holiday and then two workdays which I opted out of b/c I'd have to pay for a babysitter.  It's much harder when it's just there staring you in the face.  It's always been harder for me to lose weight in the summer because there isn't a set schedule.  BTW, I'm a teacher.

I went ahead and tried the dtick blender.  It worked beautifully!  It was soooooo much better tonight.  I probably will start adding some spices to it although it wasn't bad alone.

You only have a 9 or 10 day liquid diet?  I have 14 day.  But I will make it.  Didn't think I had all my shakes today and my daughter was being nice and put them in the fridge for me.  When I counted them I found out that I either had them all or one was missing.  Boy, I reemed her!  I feel bad about it now but thewayI've felt today I don't want to miss anything!  I've been really weak and light-headed.  Don't know if it's from a lack of caffeine (although I was weaning off anyways) or dramatic drop in calories.

I did get the sugar-free jello and have threatened everyone in my house within an inch of their lives if they touched one!  I think I'm going to make the rest.  Seems to have more flavor when it's made rather than store-bought.

yes, you can use a blender for the soups.  Also, you can have some chicken broth for something that is not sweet but counts as liquids.  You can have sugar free popcycles too, but with it being so cold you may not want them...  I age lots of SF jello before and after sugery.

The first few days of the liquid diet are the worst but it gets easier.  Good luck!  Alice

Thanks for the encouragement.  I feel like I've hit a wall in what I can have and it's only the third day.  I fell better today though.  The afternoons are rough - that's when I had problems with eating before.  I'm having some broth now but going to have some jello in a few.  If you have any other suggestions of liquids let me know.

I used a whisk to stir the soup.  I put the whisk between my palms and vigorously rubbed my hands back and forth with that whisk between them.  I got this trick from the Food Channel, Alton Brown I think.  It worked for me every time.  I'm sure you could use a blender though.  I'm sure the jello is fine.

Hey Girl! Did not want you to think that I was ignorning your emails. I have just switched jobs and do not have as much time to get online.

I was also trying to respond to your last email but for some stupid reason my computer will not let me. Its getting on my nerves!

I am so excited for you... you are having your surgery in like less than two weeks! I am soooooo happy for you!

I am suposed to have my decision appointment tomorow and I am hoping that I can make it there! This whole state shuts down when it snows, you know! I just tried to call their office and they were closed. I am going nuts here!

I was getting worried about you.  I'm glad to hear everything's okay.

Less than two weeks - doesn't that sound lovely.  It's especially helpful to remember that when I'm going crazy seeing all the food commercials and shows and smelling the food that my dh cook for him and the kids.  At least he cooks it and I don't have to do that!  And he feels really bad eating in fron tof me.

If you get to the decision appt will you stay and come to the support group meeting?  I'm hoping to go.  Thought it might be good for me right before surgery and on this liquid diet.

Talk to you soon.
