Finally Brave Enough To Say Hello

Hello Everyone.  My name is Stephanie, but my user name is AgnuMe (A New Me).  I started my weight loss journey in June 2008 and had my surgery December 4 2008.  It's been an interesting 6 weeks so far, but nothing too out of the ordinary has happened.  At my 6 week appointment I was told I had lost 34 pounds and gained back some of the muscle I lost.  This is the first time in my life I have ever lost weight and gained muscle!  My surgery was done in Pinehurst, but I was wondering if there are any support groups that meet in Fayetteville since it takes me an hour to drive to Pinehurst.   Thanks in advance!

Welcome to one of the best forums I think. I guess it is hard to break the ice but I promise the majority of us dont bite at least not on saturday nights. Congrats on your weightloss and muscle gain. You are on a path many of us will be journeying with you on alot of the same subjects. Dont hesitate to ask folks about things that you are not sure about or experience. The least you will get is some good suggestions.. Keep up the good work.

Stephanie,

Welcome to the NC Board!  Congrats on the weight loss!  That is great!  Good job!

I don't know of any support groups in the Fayetteville area, but if you call one of the surgeons there that WLS I am sure they can tell you when their groups meet.  In Wilmington both of the Drs that do WLS have their own support groups, but welcome patients from either practice to attend.

I live about an hour from both Fayetteville and Wilmington, but having family in Wilmington was the reason for choosing them.  Gives me an excuse to go visiting!!

Again, Welcome!

Vera,

Glad to see you posting. You are doing well with the band. I see the ticker moving so that is a good sign.

Hi Stephanie,

I wanted to chime in to say hello and welcome you to our forum as well. I'm sure that you will find this to be a warm, welcoming, supportive group. I am sure that I'm a bit prejudiced, but I really do think that this is one of the nicest forums on OH. I doesn't matter what type of surgery you had or where you are in your journey, you are likely to find warm support from everyone here. Please know that there is no such thing as a 'stupid' question. We all learn from the questions and responses that are posted.

I look forward to getting to know you as you make this incredible journey.

I know that we are about an hour's drive from Fayetteville, but we do have several other members from your area that drive up for our monthly get togethers in Raleigh and you would be most welcome to join us. If you search for support groups in NC, under the 'groups' tab, you'll find Village Surgical Support Group in Fayetteville and the Dunn Area WLS Support Group in Dunn.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara
