exercise
I need to exercise more and I'm having trouble getting it in lately. I have enjoyed going to the Courts Plus fitness club here in New Bern, but I've only been a few times. I've walked around my block a couple of times, but it's so dern cold outside! I do go to physical therapy twice a week for my hip and that's a very active, very physical workout. But, I really wanna do better with exercise. There seem to be roadblocks everywhere I turn lately though. Since I'm only 5 weeks out my energy level hasn't fully returned yet, so I am really exhausted when I get home from work right now. For the past week my period has been so heavy I didn't dare stand up or even walk around unless absolutely necessary. That's eased up, thank goodness!! What a bummer!! As of yesterday I have a cold now - sore throat, stuffy, runny nose, and I feel like I've been run over. Of course, it's also 29 degrees outside and who wants to go outside to do anything?!?! NOT ME, esp. with a sore throat. Are there some exercises that I can do at home? Or shall I just chalk it up, get over my cold, enjoy my physical therapy twice a week, and get back on track when I feel better?

Meredith. I have the same problem with my period. I think it has a lot to do with the blood thinner I am on. I will be off of it in a few days but too late to help this period. Were you on one too? Maybe that is why we are having such heavy ones. ugh... I am lucky that there is a gym I can use for free 2 blocks from my work. I have an hour for lunch and we go then. Of course I feel yucky since I can't shower until I get home but I work around a bunch of smelly Marines. They couldn't tell if I stunk like a skunk. For other times, I bought one of those videos that comes with a ball. It works your core muscles. It is a good workout. Since I am not in the best phyical shape, even that gives me an arobic workout. I have to do that today since it is freezing out and I am not going out for too overly long. I won't do the ball if anyone else is around because I look like an idiot. So I best get to that before the house fills up again. I hope you get over your cold soon. Take it easy and get some rest.

Yes, I was giving myself Lovenox (sp?) injections everyday for 2 weeks after surgery. That was an anti-coagulant. I think it's still in my system because I'm still itchy around the injection area (lower tummy). Plus, last week I cut my finger in a tiny spot while cutting onions, but it bled off and on for THREE days! I thought, 'what the heck is going on?!' Then it occurred to me when my period got heavy that the Lovenox must still be in my system.

Ginny, it wasn't so bad. Really, I thought I would have a really hard to giving myself injections, but it was no big deal at all. The teeny-tiny needles are so sharp you can hardly feel it at all.
Stay warm. I've been lounging all day with the fire going, enjoying my 3-day weekend. Not only do we have Monday off, we also have a workday Thursday and an optional work day Friday, so only two days of teaching this coming week. I'm all for that!

That's funny...we have Monday and then an optional day Tuesday and a protected day Wednesday. Since they won't let me take my annual leave for surgery I'm taking those days off to get my house in order before surgery (maybe - not my favorite thing to do, of course). Plus I'd have to pay for a babysitter if I were to work those days and with the surgery, we're tapped. My baby will be 6 Wednesday so that's another reason. Enjoy your time off. I'm still hoping to talk dh into letting me (that doesn't sound right but anyways...) go Tuesday. Hope to see you there.

You know Meredith I was having the same problem--I went out and bought myself a Wii and Wii fit--you are having so much fun-you don't even realize that you are working out. It has helped me get a workout in before I go to work in the mornings and on the weekends-trust me from doing nothing to playing on the Wii fit has really shown a great improvement in my strength and endurance. Just take one day at a time and figure out a time each day to get your workout in-whatever you find fun-do it!! Just like you brush your teeth in the morning-we have to find time to exercise--it is our reward to ourselves-I feel like I have gotten a second chance for a better life and exercise has to be part of it-trust me I do not want to be like I was before "the girl with the pretty face!!" I hope this helps and keep up the great work towards your new life--enjoy the journey it will be a fun and exciting one!!

I have my eye on a Wii Fit too, but honestly I think I'm still too heavy to get on that thing right now. So, I was thinking I'd reward myself with one at my 200 lb milestone. Maybe they'll be cheaper then too.
