NO protein
You will need protien to help you heal from the surgery and keep you from going bald. I use AnyWhey from GNC and mix it in a cup of cocoa every morning. I can not taste it at all, it just seems to make the cocoa creamery. You just have to be careful not to get the cocoa too hot or else the whey will curdle and not be good (I have done that and had to throw it away and start over).
I think that we can do anything we set our minds to do. If you have the I will not do it mindset you probably won't, but if you get yourself siked up to the I will do it you will. Everyone is different and there is a type of protien out there that you will be able to use if you will look for it. Some folks swear by the Nectar, I haven't tried it so can't tell you about it. I certainly would experiment until I found the right combination for me before surgery because you will not be able to get your protein any other way at first. Good luck.
Hugs,
However, now... at almost 18 months out I get it all from food. I despise shakes. (Or rather, they despise me.) The one kind I could tolerate the best was from Sams and was called EAS something. It was in a purple and silverish bag and was like $30 for a HUGE bag. I only got it in chocolate. But trust me.. Ive tried every kind under the sun to no avail.
Well, if you refuse to use extra protein, that is your choice. But be aware that you need those 60 to 80 g a day. You MUST get it somewhere. If I don't get enough protein I get shakey. Many lose their hair. There are many things that can result from not getting your protein.
That said - there are MANY ways to get protein in your regular food. Some of these aren't that band friendly. You might have to grind, or mush some. But it gives you an idea. Your problem will be while you are in the liquid stage, depending on how long your doctor requires that.
- Egg, large - 6 grams protein
- Milk, 1 cup - 8 grams
- Cottage cheese, ½ cup - 15 grams
- Yogurt, 1 cup – usually 8-12 grams, check label
- Soft cheeses (Mozzarella, Brie, Camembert) – 6 grams per oz
- Medium cheeses (Cheddar, Swiss) – 7 or 8 grams per oz
- Hard cheeses (Parmesan) – 10 grams per oz
- Tofu, ½ cup 20 grams protein
- Tofu, 1 oz, 2.3 grams
- Soy milk, 1 cup - 6 -10 grams
- Most beans (black, pinto, lentils, etc) about 7-10 grams protein per half cup of cooked beans
- Soy beans, ½ cup cooked – 14 grams protein
- Split peas, ½ cup cooked – 8 grams
If you just don't like the taste, you might try mixing New Whey liquid protein with your water. If you mix 1/2 a bullet with a bottle of water, it just gives the water a very subltle flavor. I like the orange.
My goal is to eat 21 grams of FOOD protein per meal and any snacks that I have normally has protein!! I put cheese on EVERYTHING for the added protein!!
she is 2 months out..and just don't feel 100% normal...
Now Im asking myself if I want to do this...
I started WW again this new year...so we will see what happens..
Thanks again
Good luck and remember that part does not last forever even though it feels like it for a few weeks! Just drink plenty. I got dehydrated and ended up really sick!
If you "will NOT do it", you'll be in a world of hurt. You'll do alot of things during the process that aren't pleasant, but most are temporary. You have to keep the ultimate goal on the brain. Not 'liking" protien supplements was near the bottom of my list on things that were unplesant (think male catheter). If you are, even before surgery, thinking of skipping out on protien because it doens't taste good to you, you should seriously consider NOT doing this. I'm sorry if I've disheartened you.
Good luck.
