I was at Frye Regional at 7:00 am for pre op. After I got there they did not have me scheduled at Same Day Surgery which is where Frye does their pre op. All of the  procedures (chest x ray, upper GI, EKG) had been scheduled. They got someone out  of the emergency room to draw my blood and a respiratory therapist came in and explained the spirometer. Anesthesiologist came down and talked to me. Everything went smoothly.

We have to be at Frye at 5:30 am for surgery on 1/22. That means we have to be on the road by 3:30 am. Oh my gosh. And I thought being there at 7am  was going to be hard. Luckily my dad is a truck driver and he is used to driving wierd hours. Not me.

I might get to go home the same day so I am excited about that.

I was the only one at Hickory for the pre op this week so I got one on one attention and that was great. Met with the nurse, psychologist, and the dietician. I did still have some questions and the staff was able to answer and put me at ease.

Hey Tamara,

I started my preop diet today, which is low carb.  Not to bad, but it's amazing how addicted I've become to carbs.  Good luck with your surgery.

If you are doing the powder optifast  you can get diet sunkist or diet rootbeer and put in blender. Start blender add optifast and add ice and you get a wonderful milkshake.

That sounds really good but I'm doing the ready-made stuff.  5 juice-box-size boxes a day or, the way I'm doing it, 4 boxes and 1soup a day.  I thought with the soup I could at least sit with my family and "eat" with them at night.

Good luck!  I had my RNY done at Frye and they are great!  Love the Hickory Surgical Associates!  It's ok that you have to be there early.  I was so excited and pumped up to be having surgery that I was up and ready to go.  We had to leave at 4:00 am to be there!  You will be glad you are first!!!!

Glad you joined the OH board. Some people from the Hickory Surgical group are meeting in Morganton Saturday the 24th at the Courthouse coffee shop. Check out the info on the Hickory board. Sheila N has been getting it together. If you want to come you are welcome. THe more the merrier. I will not be there since my surgery is the 22nd.
