Biggest Loser Bummer!
Just needed to vent...
The folks at my school have decided to do a "Biggest Loser" challenge. No one even said anything to me and when I went into the room where everyone was weighing in I asked what was going on. My friend (who is the weigh-er) said that they're doing a "Biggest Loser" and it was the general concensus that I should not participate. I was extremely upset about that. I felt like I had been left out on purpose. She did tell me later that she tried to tell the people that are actually in charge of it that I could participate and just not "win" each month. I feel better now that she tried to stand up for me. Is this what I have to look forward too? Being left out and talked about when I'm not around? I knew to expect some of that but didn't expect it to start so soon.
Thanks for letting me vent and please tell me if I'm being ridiculous.

I think they know you'd beat the pants off them and they wouldn't be able to compete. How about offer to be a judge? Offer to be a "trainer" for them? You'll be the expert in weight loss. They'll just be rookies. Treat 'em like weight loss wannabes!!

Well, it really wouldn't be fair. Starting January 30th you are going to begin losing some serious weight without even trying :) But I agree that they should have clued you in to their thinking.
Now... once you reach goal, you should start a new "maintenance" contest for all of those "biggest losers" that also reached goal. By that time, the playing field will be equal... and much smaller.
Have fun!

Thanks, ya'll. I knew it wouldn't be fair now. The point is I felt like they were purposely not telling me because of this. I look at this surgery as a tool like they tell us. And the work will still be my own. I had a friend who said her friend gets really upset when people ask her how she lost the weight and she tells them and they say "oh, so you didn't do it on your own". I think thatwill irritate me too. You all will have to help me think of a snappy comeback for them,
The "biggest loser" at maintenance would be a good idea. Maybe year after next I'll start it again. Thanks for your help.

Just so you know, no one has EVER said anything (to my face) negative about my surgery. Most were very supportive, or didn't say anything at all. And, of course, as the weight has fallen off we're all excited together.
BUT, if anyone did say "Oh, so you didn't do it on your own." I would retort, "Yes, I absolutely did EVERYTHING on my own. I made the decision to endure a life-threatening surgery for my health; I followed the surgeon's instructions; I eat what I am supposed to eat; and I exercise 4-6 times a week and am now running. And every day I wake up grateful that I did it ALL."
And I also tell everyone the absolute truth when they comment on my weight loss and ask how I did it. "Well, last April I had gastric bypass surgery which allowed me to eat properly and begin exercising. I am now running and living a life I couldn't even imagine." And I say it with pride :)
Good luck!
