I am having a very hard time with the protein shakes. I am eating a little but not enough to get in my 60 grams of daily protein. I hate the shakes...has anyone come across protein tablets or capsules. The shakes are really making me nauseated...

Have you tried a protein hot cocoa? I warm up 8 ounces nonfat milk to about 125 degrees. I add one scoop of unflavored Unjury Protein (20 grams), 1 tablespoon of bakers cocoa unsweetened, 3 packets of Truvia (you could use Splenda if you want). Stir till everything is disolved. Just don't warm the milk too much or the protein gets clumpy and it isn't good. But for me it goes down great first thing everyday and tstes yummy. I don't taste or smell the protein at all. You can use a chocolate flavored protein as well but you still need the cocoa powder but maybe not as much.

Hi Ivory,

I can relate and I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling. One of the things I did for myself and for my husband Ben, who just had his surgery 12/11/08 was to make some cream of tomatoe soup with skim milk. It provided protien and not a lot of calories. The basic tomore soup has 2 grams of protien per serving, but when you use skim milk, it ups it to 10 grams per cup. It takes a while to get it in, but that really worked wonders. I seasoned it with worchestershire a bit a garlic and basil. Another thing that worked for him was IsoPure drinks. They seemed to go down better than the shakes. Are you to a point where you can have oatmeal yet? You can use the high protien version if you like that and it has 7 grams of protien in a serving, then when you add the skim milk it boosts it by 8 grams per cup.

At what point can you switch to food sources?

I could not stand the shakes either, I am more of a clear beverage drinker. Probably with Dr. B's instructions you are still on clear liquids, so what I would do is either get the Isopure drinks at their office or try them from Gnc, same thing. Drink them over ice,and you'll probably have to half it with s/f koolaid, crystal light or water. Hang in there........that post-op diet is hard, but it's for a reason, and remember, he's the best!

I know how horrible they are! I still drink one every morning though and get my protein powder from Walmart and put Davincis sugar free syrups in to make them taste better. I also drink protein bullets, grape only. They are kinda nasty but I do them like a shot of alchohol LOL they go down faster! Trust me the person that invents protein tablets is going to be a gazillionaire! You can do it!!!

Darcie has the right approach. I still do the bullets myself when I know I did not get all the protein in the food for the day. The only shakes I really like are the Atkins Choclate Royale from Wally world. Depending on your solid food status Adkins bars can give up to 17 grams per serving but you have to keep an eye on the sugar alcohols if that sort of thing bothers you on the Endulge labeled ones. If it weren't for adkins, peanuts, cashews and my dog I would be in deep Kemshee for protein.. Ok I did not roast the dog she is there for the left overs.. My four legged girl friend has to have treats as well. Bulllets remind me of cough syrup. I get the fruit punch ones but the best so far for me were rasberry somehing I got from this site.
