My latest-still need help
Hello everyone. Here's the latest saga in my craziness....
I finally got the gastro Dr to contact PCP Dr and he told them to refer me to a surgeon to figure out what this pain is on my left side. Gastro thinks that there's a high probability that it's an internal hernia and wants me to go to a surgeon. BUT-local surgeons refuse to treat me because of the Gastric Bypass. Literally-they told my primary care Dr that they won't treat me! Gee thanks.
I got some good information from ya'll before and I can't seem to locate it, so I'm asking again. I know someone told me to call Hickory - but what Drs are there - what's the practice name? I called Duke today and they said they would make an appointment and I'm sure they're great as the Duke reputation precedes them but I would rather not travel that far if I can get a great Dr in Hickory. (PS-must be a Dr that accepts medicaid)
However-a side note-a friend mentioned that she thought plastic surgeons fixed hernias. Is that true? Should I be looking into a plastic surgeon for this? Any thoughts?
For anyone new to my situation-been having pain on left side since Thanksgiving that makes me unable to do much of anything. It's a good thing I'm a stay at home mom-because I certainly can't function well. I now live on the couch and on pain pills throughout the day. I HATE IT!
As frustrated and as angry as I am now, I was in tears earlier. The worst part is that when I cry, it makes it hurt worse. I would appreciate any assistance at this point since the Drs have clearly stated that I'm on my own now.
Thanks!

Okay, I live in clyde and am going to Hickory Surgery Clinic. The phone number is 315-5577. You can talk to Meredith and she will direct you the right way if they can help. Its the same place that Barbara is talking about. You could also call Dr. Bradshaws office with the Mission program and see if he would see you. He does surgeries for the Mission WLS program but he does the majority "other surgeries". Have you tried to call the Mission Weight loss program??

Thanks guys-I knew you would come through. Mission WLS is not a Center of Excellence. They are part of the Asheville Surgical for their general surgery which is who said they wouldn't help me.
I will call tomorrow to the Hickory Surgery Clinic. Thank you, thank you, thank you - I've written it down so I can't lose it in cyberspace when the pain pills kick in. They don't completely take the pain away-but they sure make me stupid.

Dr. Cook and Cox have been at Hickory for some time now. Dr. Hata is the new guy on the block. He interned at Duke. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Dr. Hata is younger but extremely knowledgeable.
I know people who have used all of the docs. I think you will be pleased with Hickory Surgical. I used Dr. Hata and would not hesitate to recommend him.
Good luck,
Shelia

Thank to all of you so far. I'm finally making a little bit of progress. I spoke with Lisa at Hickory Surgical today and told me that I need to get all of the records from my Dr in Florida, from when I originally had the surgery, as well as the Drs notes from now. Then call them back and the doctors will decide if they'll take me on as a patient. Unfortunately, nothing is quick, but I hope I'm heading in the right direction.
Thanks for all your help so far.
