is this normal?

I have not eaten anything that didn't follow the less than 10 gms of sugar and 5 gms of fat rule so far. I have measured everything and it has not gone over the 1.4 to 1/2 cup measurement either. I have gotten a lump in the back of my throat when I have eaten stuff that I had not pureed/cut small enough. That is it. I will continue to follow the rules and maybe I won't have to throw up at all. That would be great.

Sandra,

Don't worry. Just count your blessings. Many people do come through this with relatively little, if any problems, but to be honest more people will comment or request advice when they struggling. The fact that you are not struggling doesn't mean that it isn't going to be effective or that you will regain. The weight loss will occur almost no matter what you do in the first year. You may be able to impact the percentage of your excess weight loss with additional exercise and compliance, but to be quite honest many don't exercise and are not compliant and lose a significant amount of weight anyway during the first year. However, those who do not work to make necessary lifestyle changes during this honeymoon period have a much higher likelyhood of regaining the weight that they lost. Soooooo, enjoy your good fortune and make it a point to put into place a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise ... i.e., moving at least 30 minutes a day and working in some resistance work several times a week when you Dr okay it, and find ways to identify and deal with unhealthy eating triggers because eventually you will be able to eat more and may well be able to eat some of things that can so easily get us into trouble. Finding ways to identify over-eating, grazing, and comfort eating and then ways to manage those issues will do the most to guarantee you long-term success in this amazing journey.  I have found that the book and workbook by Dr. Judith Beck called the "Beck Diet Solution" have gone a long way towards helping me identify and manage my behaviors.

Wishing you continued success,

Barbara

I will look for that. Do you think Barnes and Noble carries it? I have been going to the gym. No free weights yet but lots of cardio.

Hi Sandra,

I have found that it'**** or miss with Barnes and Noble. I'd call to see if they had it in stock. It comes as a book and an accompanying workbook. Each sold separately. I have found the workbook more often than the book. You can find it online though... Check Amazon.

I will do that. Sometimes I forget all about Amazon. I love to shop so I usually go out. But in this case it is about the books not the journey.

Hi Sandra,

I really do know what you mean and when it comes to books, I generally tend to prefer to shop in person, but when a book a little hard to find, then I'll resort to Amazon or the like.

Good luck and happy shopping,

I too have had it very easy (knock on wood)...I eat whatever my family eats.  If they have spaghetti, then I have spaghetti.  If they have steak, then I have steak.  Everyone is right...Everything is in moderation.  I do have the occasional Hershey kiss, but usually just one, not the entire bag like before.  My pouch fills up so quick that two or three bites of anything feels like too much.   Before surgery I went through the drive thrus for breakfast every day...now my husband goes through and I never order anything for myself...I allow myself to have only 1 bite of whatever he has and that's the limit.  I can't say I've never dumped because I have on two occasions...one time it was on a lil bit of McDonalds icecream and the other was on a lil bit of a Wendy's Frosty...Um, neither of those liked me and I was painfully sick for 3-4 hours after that...Weird huh? considering I can eat sugar without any problems.
I'm 5 1/2 months out and down a total of 93 lbs.  I can't even lift the amount of weight I've lost...LOL
Good luck to you and keep your head in the game...You're sure to win!!!

Sandra I have had really very little problems other than a couple of times I did not chew up my food and it returned back. I have an idea that if you take your time eating, chew and do it slow it keeps the monsters of pouch land happy. I will say that I have occasionally had food that just did not sit well with me and I basically crossed it off my wish to eat list. That luckily is a very short one. As you experience more texture in your diet you may at times find one or two items that just dont work like you would like. I also think that stress plays a great role in how we as WLS patients adjust to the rigors of economic endeavors. I fell like the more stressed we get the worst our pouches get to acting. At least that is my situation. So if any of you wonderful people think I turned into a turtle at the table just remember I dont go very fast when the food is good. I have yet to administer much sugar though and honestly make huge attempts to keep it out of my diet. Being label conscience is good when checking out for things that make you go ra roh and make a bee line for the nearest facility. Im glad you have a good report and keep up the good work.

ra roh.... too funny. You made me giggle when I read that. Thanks. I am at work and don't always get to laugh. It was definitely needed today.

I haven't really had any serious problems either.  Well, I got the shrimp stuck once 'cause I reheated it and it got tough.  And I was constipated, but it hasn't been bad and it's resolved itself very easily.  Other than that I've been doing great too.  We're just lucky I guess and I think our surgeons must be fantastic too.  I do feel very sad for all the people here with such severe problems:  severe pain, trouble swallowing, nausea, vomiting, food tasting different, etc.  I haven't had any of those problems.  When I see my surgeon tomorrow for my second follow-up I think I'm gonna hug him and thank him for taking such good care of me!
