hi All NC OH
I'm sort of a newbie here well to the NC boards. I really didn't venture out off the main boards until this weekend. I have surgery Jan 9th, i'm going through all the emotions as i'm sure everyone did. I started the pre op diet Dec 25th, and started my all liquid today, i just feel so blah. I'm hungry, and grouchie, ready for all this to be over with. Well i just wanted to stop by and say hi, i'm here in Havelock.

Hi Annmarie,

Welcome to the NC Forum! I look forward to getting to know you as you make your way on this lifechanging journey. We have a relatively active group in the greater Jacksonville area. Darcie, who participates on this board a great deal, puts together a support group that meets about once a month, so be sure to keep an eye out for her posts about that.

Know that while the liquid diet is challenging it will all be worth it. Generally, the Dr's ask you to do this so that you can reduce the size of your liver which makes lap surgery easier and safer. It might help to make a list of all of the reasons that you want to do this and keep that handy so that when you are thinking about 'cheating' you can get a look at the bigger picture and stand strong. Also consider making a list of ways to distract yourself ... coming on OH, taking a hot bath, knitting, etc...

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Awww..  Annmarie..  I can remember those first few days of liquid myself.  Be grateful that you are not on liquid for 2 solid weeks like I was.  I can give you some good advice..  the first two days are the hardest.  Your body is going through withdrawal and you are detoxing so to speak.  Just be patient and remember that NOTHING you eat right now will feel as good as being thin is later on.  I do not regret one step I have taken in the past 18 months and feel sure that you will look back on the liquid diet and just kinda laugh because it is a very important part of the process but also very forgettable.  :)  Its like having a baby..  you have the final product of the labor, but the labor itself and that memory tends to fade over time!

Welcome and good luck.  I dont go to the main board either.  I dont care for their tone there at times.  Everyone here is very nice and supportive and do not tear people down like I have seen on the main RNY board.  Please keep us posted.

Hi Ann Marie
Welcome to the board! I see your name is Marine Princess..I used to be active duty Marines and my hubby is a SNCO at New River. Their are several ladies in your neck of the woods that come down to Jacksonville when we have our monthly fun get together at Logans Roadhouse. I am extending the invitation to you in case you would like to join us! We are meeting on January 6th at 7pm at Logans Roadhouse in Jacksonville. I know you are on your liquid diet, but we have had other ladies just bring their protein shake and join in the fun! I am also a Southern Surgical patient, I had Dr. Mann. You are in fantastic hands with the Southern Surgical Docs! Best of luck to you on your big day!

Welcome Annmarie:

I had 2 weeks of liquid diet and the one thing that got me through it was not to let myself get to the starving point.  I had to drink 6 shakes a day and started at 7 am and drank one ever 2 1/2 hours so i never got to the starvation point.   The liquid diet is well worth the end result.   Good luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Pam

Thanks you guys for the welcoming kind words. Yes the main boards can be a bit cruel at times,so its nice to have someone from NC, that is one thing i have noticed being here in NC for almost 6 years, that everyone here in this state is so nice. Any who thanks for the invite to logan's. I will not be able to make this dinner, i hope next time i will be able to. Just let me know when you have the next meeting in J-Ville. I know havelock really doesn't have a support group yet, so you guys are the closest support group for me,and thank.
Thanks so much, i will keep in contact with you guys.
Annmarie

oh yeah you know me !!!!! i'm glad to know you started a support group in Havelock, I don't mind going to either one, i know you had on back in Oct? or nov? This weeks on Jan 6th in Jacksonville, I can not go, my little boy has an appointment in New Bern, plus my sugery is on Jan 9th so there is a lot of rushing around that i have to do this week for last minute things to get done. I don't mind car pooling another time. Thanks so much for the offer though.
I will keep in contact, and i'm glad i strayed from the main boards finally..
