Hello and Happy New Year!
For someone who deals with the public on a daily basis (I am a commercial insurance agent), I tend to lurk or fly under the radar which is a direct contradiction in personality. This is actually a bad thing for me since I suffer from depression and tend to stay to myself outside of work. I need to get out more and interact with others, so that is another goal for 2009.
I also see myself as a person of extremes. Goal #3 will be to find balance in my life.
I seldom in the past have set any kind of "resolutions" or goals outside of weight loss. So this is a first for me.
What goals or "resolutions" have you set for yourself in 2009? Please share.
Best wishes to each and every one of you for the New Year!

I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from about taking and not giving back here on OH. With my emotions being haywire lately, I just have not been able to be a part of the support here like I intend and that makes me feel terrible because that is so not like me. I also used to suffer from depression and would hole myself up. To break free from that and then find yourself going back to that place...not so fun! I'm really working on that right now.
Need to get out more and interact with others = MOI! Person of extremes = MOI again! lol
I really look forward to getting to know you in 2009!
Thanks so very much for those kind words. Please remember them in the future and be just as kind to yourself. I think we tend to allow more from others then we do from ourselves.
And you are so right about the vicious cycle that depression can put in. It is hard to see that we need to stop the cycle by going out of our comfort zone.
Thanks again,
Carrie

1. We are now an NC homeschool once again. Lil' man has finished his placement testing for his new curriculum and we are ordering that. I hope to feel well enough soon to enjoy with him all the extra-curricular activities offered at the various parks, museums, and such.
2. Can't wait for our daughter's first HS year of softball to get under way. She has been working really hard at the gym, at practices, and workouts. We plan on really enjoying ourselves!
3. Finishing our home's remodeling project, both inside and out. Outside: new roofs, gutters, deck railing, stucco foundation, paint, etc. (We have everything, now to just do it!) Inside: new lighting, fixtures, paint, flooring, etc. Big job that will take most of the year, but wow will it be nice when we are done.
4. Get new furniture for the living room and dining room as we finish with the dust and paint messes. (The dining room should be finished first and by the end of next month!)
5. Go to a theme park and water park this summer and ENJOY MYSELF without sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else!!! Ride roller coasters, do water slides...WALK all day without severe pain!!! Wear a swimsuit in pulic without dying from embarressment!!! (Well, with the melting thighs, I'm not so sure about the last one! Wet suit? lol)
6. Apply to host a foreign exchange student during our daughter's junior year in high school.
7. Save for a cruise to Mexico during Christmas break 2009.
8. Make a final decision on our desire to adopt more children. (To be honest, with the way I've been feeling, I can't imagine it!)
9. FEEL BETTER!!! I hope it's not long in 2009 that the tide turns and I just start to feel GREAT.
10. Get to my goal weight. No specific number in mind. I've been imaging that my body will tell me what that is. :)
I know I'm forgetting stuff, but these are the highlights!
Your list is fantastic! By the time you get to Christmas break 2009 you will enjoy that cruise to Mexico. I went in October and never tired from walking or activity. It was really nice to feel "normal".
I also swam and used the hot tub on the cuise and although I have a lot of excess skin, mostly in the lower part of my body (hip and thighs), I did not feel as self-conscious in a swim suit. Of course I did use a lower body wrap as soon as got out of the water. But I was proud to be in a size 14 swim suit, down from a size 32-34!
I'm still not at my own personal goal, although by Doctor thinks I should be happy where I am. I'm not unhappy where I am, but I feel that I can still do more.
Thanks so much for sharing...Carrie

My first and foremost goal for the new year is to have surgery and become a better me so that I can be a better wife, mom, daughter, teacher, friend, etc.
Second is to refinish hardwood floors by hand and paint every wall that my children have been writing on for the past 9 years (decided to wait until they grew out of that before doing anything about it).
Third is to become more organized (haha).
In reference to #1, my dr. told me he expects me to be between 135 and 145 by next Christmas so I guess I could add acquiring a brand new wardrobe by Christmas.
Thanks!
Just remember as you check off your goals that you need to be good to yourself also. I know it is easier said then done, but take care of you.
Thank YOU for sharing.

Jennifer it looks like you have a lot of exercise in your future! Is there anything in particular that you enjoy most?
I also need to incorporate a lot more of the structured exercise into my daily routine. I like the water aerobics, but it gets too cold for me to finish a class this time of year. In the water I feel equal to everyone, out of the water well I just can't seem to get the coordination to move correctly.
I even tried line dance classes earlier this year and while the rest of the class was moving their "groove thing", this book worm was still trying to figure out the counting and where my feet needed to be. I was going to have to take the beginner class at least 4 times just to progress to the next level!
Happy New year and good luck with your goals.....
