protein shakes
Ok so is there an explination as to why our tastes change soo much? I was using unjury pre op. Then they started tasting like crap. Soo I switched to nectar, well now it is all i can do to chike it down. Just wondering if anyone ever got an explaination on why our tastes change soo frequently. Thanks for any reply, BAFFLED
Dear Baffled,
You have hit on a subject that most likely has affected most every one on this forum. For me there were quite a few things I really loved that were healthy and when I ate them gads It was like a really bad moment. Part of the process is learning that the mouth is re learning what will work and what will not. I basically did alot of tube protien right at first and it did not take long until they were not the greatest in the world. Could just be the limited things we can ingest early on. As your system heals up you will be able to get more back in the swing of things. Just dont ru**** So many people are just about to wig out for something to chew on they begin to eat things that just dont work. Now for some long term stuff. I am going on what my wife has experienced. From time to time even food that seems great for a while will become a nemesis. Right now Im on an I hate Chicken kick. I ended it today with some blackend chicken but it tasted wonderful again. The big part of this is trial and error. If you were flexable with eating prior to your procedure then great. If not then a whole new world of new food awaits your palate. The biggest protein thing that I did not like but love now is fish.. who would have thought that if you knew how little fish I ate on an occasional basis. Good luck on finding things that will work for you and dont hesitate to post on this sort of thing either.

According to the folks at Duke, the change in taste is most likely due to a reaction to anesthesia and is seen by many post op patients regardless of their surgery type. They say that the changes related to anesthesia seem to last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. That coupled, with weaning off of the high sugar, fat and salt diets that we used eat may cause some differences in our preferences. I personally didn't notice a significant change in taste. Ben has noticed some.
