For me, this has been really hard so far

Isn't it strange how one's taste can change like OVERNIGHT?!  I am so with you on that one.  I've been so surprised at how before I could drink just about any protein powder but now, EEGADS!  I even had a short time where I couldn't drink my favorite chocolate whey protein powder from GNC.  I'm back to enjoying it so don't be afraid to go back and try something again.  Strange indeed!

I'm also doing the same thing with some foods I used to love.  Now to have to have their taste and texture in my mouth until I chew them to a paste...ewww!  I just can't stand it.  Before I could just do a few chews and swallow and yum!  I loved them.  Now, not so much!

I will be so glad when the hormone issue is a thing of the past so my evil twin can just die off along with the fat!

((((((((((Lizard))))))))))))))))

First of all dont feel like your whining, this is what this forum is for! Everyone on the NC forum that I know would never put you down for expressing your thoughts and feelings I am sorry you are feeling so yucky and having issues. I deal with hypoglycemia myself and it took awhile to get used to. I try to keep food with me that I can eat so I dont get into what my hubby calls *The red zone* which is a full on headache, dizzy. sick, Psycho path with a knife horrible feeling. I felt like crap for two weeks and would cry at the drop of a hat and was SOO desperate that I even had Psychotic thoughts of having Dr. Mann reverse the surgery... yep I was soo desperate because I felt like crapola. I am sending you my best wishes that you get it all sorted out and that you feel better!!!!

hugs

Darcie,  I'm taking it that your hypoglycemia has gotten a lot better the further out from WLS you've gotten?  I am borderline red zone almost all the time now and then I slip right into the red zone so fast.  My hubby and son had to walk on each side of me on Saturday because we were afraid I would SPLAT my face right into the concrete!

I'm right there with you of thinking about reversing the surgery.  I think that every day at this point.  Heck, I can live with the occasional hypoglycemic spell if I let 4-5 hours go by without eating.  I've done that most of my life anyway!  I just can't permanantly live like I am now.

At the grocery store last night I bought a roll of regular lifesavers and a small pack of peanuts to keep in my purse.  I wasn't sure what to get.  What do you keep with you that doesn't need refrigeration?  I was talking to a friend last night and she suggested that instead of the lifesavers to get glucose tablets, which I plan on doing.  Would love to hear what you do...thanks!

Yes it did get better! my biggest thing and this is for ME is I DO NOT eat just three meals a day. I eat all day long, every two hours or I slip into the red zone we both seem to experience. The thing is I cannot let myself GET hungry, once Im hungry FORGET IT. I work at home so I am lucky to have the kitchen right here BUT when I am out in town this is what is in my purse... now remember some of it does have sugar..I am in no way telling you to get these things lol

Sugar free gum
orange tic tacs
jiff travel sized peanut butter LIFESAVER FOR ME!! they come in tiny one woman packs
granola bars
sweet and salty mix... has mixed nuts and m&ms small bags I got them at the store.

thats what I carry at all times. It sounds like a lot but it really isnt! please try to keep eating so you dont get in the red zone... I know what it feels like and its awful!!

Best of luck,
Darcie

Awesome news that it did get better for you, Darcie!  Phew!

I did do one day where I ate every 2 hours and I did so much better.  I even "glowed" that day according to friends!  lol  But, when I talked to my NUT about it, she said to eat not anymore than every 3 hours or it will affect my weight-loss results.  That does make sense but I am at a point that I would rather lose slowwww and not as much than to get skinny fast and feel horrible!

I haven't had true hunger come back yet, but I know it's just a matter of time.  For now I watch the clock and my hypoglycemia let's me know immediately when my 3 hours have passed.

I so appreciate your list of things.  The sweet and salty mix makes total sense!  I am definitely going to look for the peanut butter packs too.  I've not had any sign of dumping yet when I tried the OJ so I'm not sure if I'm good-to-go regarding a few M&M's, etc.  We shall see!

Thanks so much!

Hey Shauna:

You are not whining by any means as we are all here to support each other which we have all needed at one time (or hundreds of times) or another.   I know you are vegetarian so you can't carry beef jerky or something like that with you, but can you take low fat cheese sticks that are prewrapped.  Your appetite will eventually return and for the first few months after surgery, I had to feed myself on a schedule like a baby to avoid bottoming out and dizzy spells.  It was a chore but i can honestly say that it was well worth it 10 months later.  I also was diagnosed with hypothyroid a few months after surgery which also affects your emotions.  If you haven't had that checked, you may want to ask your PCP to run a panel and make sure that is in good order.

Take care and remember we are here for you my friend.

Pam,  The lowfat cheese stick (with 1/4 c. OJ) is what helped me tremendously yesterday so great suggestion!  I will for sure stick that in my purse when I won't be gone long and remember to do so.  I did buy small packs of peanuts last night for my purse and a roll of lifesavers candies, but (like I said in Darcie's post) a friend suggested that I switch the lifesavers for glucose tablets.  I plan on picking some up perhaps later today after my dr. appointment.

You are so right about eating being a chore right now.  It's like force-feeding when you don't want to and that good ol' gag reflex sets in!  Blah!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in July and went on Levoxyl.  Ran out of pills on Christmas Even and didn't realize I was out of refills so I've not taken one since then.  I'm going to see my PCP today and she is going to test my thyroid level again.  (I'm going to request she test my blood sugar as well.)  Will be glad to get back on the Levoxyl so I know my thyroid isn't having a negative affect on my weight loss or my emotions...I hadn't heard that it does that with the emotions!

Hey Shauna:

Found some links regarding emotions and hypothyroidism.  The problem with you being off the thyroid meds a week or so when you have it tested will not be a true reading of where you are with the meds.

Good luck with getting back on track with it and getting your low blood sugar leveled out.

Love, Pam
