Hey...

Happy Holidays to all. I'm new here..Or new again. way back in 2002 I was here on OH as I was prepping for my RNY. I got tons of needed info and much needed support and then life happened and off I drifted.

No particular event has happened to bring me back - but it is good to be "around" people who understand gastric bypass.

I had my RNY on Dec 2 2002 and for about the first 2 months thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life. I had open RNY and the incision hurt all the way to my spine. I felt awful, I hated the diet, the world sucked and the weight was coming off to slow. You name it I wasn't happy about it. Then I wasn't in pain anymore and life got sooo much better. The weight came off slowly because my thyroid was failing and until that was sorted and I was on correct meds the two issues were in direct competition. I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing - it was just my thing.

The wieght came off and stayed off. My life changed completely. The simple things came back first - the things that other people can't understand. I could stand without pushing out of the chair. I could sit without dropping inot the chair. my sides didn't spill over of the arms pinch. I could tie my shoes without feeling pressure in my neck and head. I could cross my legs. Then cross them and still feel my feet!.

Now I ride horses, swim, bike, run and can climb into my jeep and not need help getting back out! What a change. I had gotten stuck palces before and that humiliation ....ugh.

Men turn and watch me when I walk into a room and I love it. I'm probably not supposed to admit that but you know what, I am 44 and I am going to enjoy while it lasts!

I am so blessed to have been able to have had bariatric surgery and I would do it over in a heartbeat. It was not a cureall by any means and anyone who tells me it was "an easy option" needs to see my scar. I eat right and exercise regularly and the RNY gave me the jump start to make that possible.

The best way out is always through.

Welcome Elizabeth.  I don't post much on the boards, but visit on a daily basis.  You will find the North Carolina board one of the friendliest boards on OH.  Everyone one here is very supportive and helpful.

Unlike you, I felt my RNY was the best decision I could have made and never regreted one moment from day one.  I was very fortunate in that the pain was very manageable and I had no complications.

Like you I find all the things I can now do a wonder.  I will never take any of it for granted again!

Again Welcome back to OH.  I look forward to reading your posts here.

Happy Holidays

Elizabeth,

This is a bit late but I just wanted to welcome you to the NC board (or welcome back that is).  I also had RNY 08/22/2002 and I'm enjoying life like never before.  Anyway, just a welcome!  We have a bunch of great people on our site and I hope you'll become a regular.  We have a meetup once a month in Jacksonville and you're more than welcome to join us (You may already know this, I didn't read the other posts but just wanted to make sure to invite you).

I hope you had a great Christmas and 2009 brings health, happiness and lots of men looking your way... hehe!  I think we all enjoy that a bit...  (don't tell my fiance' I said that... lol)

Bye4now,
Sheryl
