Hard Day

Today we have our family Christmas gathering at my brothers house.
Lee and I will be taking mother.
On top of all this my oldest dog Rosie is not doing well.
Rosie is 22 years old a unheard of age with a dog.
She has been coughing on and off for a few days and it is not geting better I cant allow this to keep going on.
After the family thing we are going to take Rosie to the emergency vet.
I am hoping there maybe some medication to help or but if not I cant allow her to suffer any more.
I have no idea how I am going to pull off being happy around my family today when inside my heart is breaking.
I know I should eat something but all I have managed to do is have coffee this morning my bad.

Hi Annie,
I am so sorry to heaer Rosie is not doing well.  It sounds like congestive heart failure.  I don't know if there is anything the vet will be able to give her to ease the coughing which is probably caused by fluid buildup in the lungs.  They might want to try a diuretic like Lasix...  That being said, I would go easy on all of you today and wait until tomorrow to go to your regular vet.  One more day in 22 years (a miracle and a tribute to your good care!) is not going to make a substantive difference, however if you go to emergency, it can be so stressful for all of you that I think it would be a hardship for you and Rosie more than a blessing.  I am just throwing that out there, Annie.  You know I am behind you no matter what you decide to do and send you lots of love to you all.

So sorry, Annie.
It's a very sad day when we realize our babies will not be with us much longer. Even more terrible when it's Christmas.
You'll do what's best for Rosie but be sure to take care of you too.
xoxo

My thoughts are with you today also, Annie.  Our neighbors were just telling me that they thought they were going to lose their 16yo shih-tzu the other day, but they did homemade chicken soup for her and she's like a new pup.  Don't know if that helps your Rosie at all, but I thought I would mention it.  Love and hugs to you both, sweetie.

Annie,

I'm sorry Rosie isn't feeling well, I know it's hard to have to make a decision, but if there isn't anything they can do to make her better just know you have given her a wonderful life!  You and Lee have had her for a wonderful 22 years (very unheard of!), I will keep you in my thoughts!!!

Sending Hugs and Love your way!!!

Your sweet Rosie is truly an angel living in your home and she has been with you for alot of your own life. I can understand how hard it is for you to see her feeling so bad. I agree tha waiting for Monday might be a lot less stressful for you and Rosie than going into the emergency vet today. Be kind to yourself and you will be able to help Rosie however she needs you to. I never can find the best words for anyone going through this but I do want to tell you that Rosie knows you love her.

(((((((Annie))))))

I am so sorry to hear this Annie.  Our fur babies are such a big part of our families and it's so hard to let them go even when it's the right thing to do.  Do what you have to do for Rosie and be sure to take care of Annie too.  That's what Rosie would want you to do, I'm sure.

You, Lee, and Rosie will be in my thoughts and prayers today.

Love,
Donna

Hi Annie,

I have to say that I concur with Suzanne, just about word for word. It is very possible that I diuretic can provide some significant relief. I'm sure that your vet can advise you best and since he knows you and Rosie, the vet will be best able to help you both through the decisions involving the best way to provide paliative care for her.

Try to have a bit of protien if you can. If not, try to stay hydrated.

Hugs,

Barbara

Rosie is still with us.
I talked with Lee on the way to the family dinner and we both agree having the vet come to the house would be best for Rosie and us.
I am giving her benedryl to help keep her relaxed through the day and night.
If the vet can help relive some of her symptoms for now I am all for it.
The horrible coughing during the night is very stressful for me and for Rose.
At the family dinner I had some turkey and it got stuck.
I am doing better now and will face what ever I need to do to help Rosie tomorrow.
