Protein powders recommendations
I need a recommendation for protein powders that are tasty, have lots of protein and are cheap. Any suggestions? I tried GNC but they were so expensive. I really was looking for something I could pick up at Wally World. There were so many to chose from I wanted to ask the forum first.
Happy Holidays!
I have to say that this is such a personal thing and what you like now, you seriously might not like later. That said, one of the better ones that I've tried was Chocolate Fudge Dessert which is available at The Vitamin Shoppe and runs about 21.00. It has 20 grams of protien per scoop. I also like AmericanWhey from GNC and I think that one ran about 25.00 for a HUGE container. Remember to factor in the number of servings to the price... when you do that it's not so expensive per serving. The DesignerWhey that's available at WalMart and Trader Joe's is okay, but I like the flavor and texture of the two I mentioned the best.
My husband had his surgery last week and at this point he can't stand any of the 'shakes,' but is tolerating the Isopure pretty well. The Isopure runs about 3.75 for a 20 ounce bottle which contains 40 grams of protien. It takes him all day to get it in. While 3.75 might seem expensive for a bottle of protien supplement, it's less than most hamburgers you get at a drive-thru and it's enough for a full day at this point and I doubt that he'll consume more than two a day even when he gets farther out.
Remember that for most of us, we only use the protien shakes for a relatively short period of time. Most people completely or at least significantly move away from the protien supplements to eating 'real food,' so you probably won't be consuming them all the time for more than a couple of months. This might help as you look at the expense involved. I also found that stores like GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe will allow you to exhange any product you don't like. That was great for me, because it allowed me to try a couple and tell them what I did and didn't like about it and they were able to steer me towards something that worked better for me.
Wishing you all the best,

My surgery was a year ago... (today's my surgiversary, but that's for a differnet post), i used Unjury unflavored and mixed it with chicken soup. i thought that was pretty good. It was 20 grams for 8 oz. so it worked well when i first got home and couldn't take in alot at the beginning.
My hubby's surgery was last week. He seems to like the bullet best. $3.59 for 4 oz. but 40 grams of protien for each 4 oz. He thinks it's too sweet, since he's not tolerated sweets too well, but he mixes the 4 oz of bullet with a 12 oz bottle of water and likes the taste of that real well, he takes his time and drinks that throughout the day.
Basically, as Barb said, you'll have to try several to find one that suits your own personal taste. So i would suggest you by very small quantities of several brands and flavors. Your tastes will change ALOT after the surgery.
HIJACK!!!
Judy, congrats on your surgiversary ... Now it's time for a new avatar my dear!
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
