Christmas food ?'s

I am thinking of making a salad for Christmas and using sugar free ingredients. It does have buttermilk and I was wondering if people ever have trouble with buttermilk.

Also I make a sausage and egg casserole, that has some bread a lot of eggs and cheese and then cream of mushroom soup on top. I was wondering if I leave the sausage off of part if I would be OK to eat it, I am not on bread at this time, but it is more egg and cheese and is very moist. I was just wondering what every thought of that.

Thanks!
Jeff

Not sure about the salad with buttermilk as I don't think I've had any buttermilk since surgery. The egg casserole is something I tolerate very well. It didn't seem the same to me without the sausage so I've been using either the Jimmy Dean turkey sausage ot the morning star crumbles (vegetarian) in place of the fattier pork sausage and it's wonderful.

Good Luck - so many things are trial and error at this point in our journey.

 Jeff,

I always have been very lucky with the foods that I can tolerate since surgery, so I might not be a good example.  But buttermilk was never a problem for me.  As a matter of fact, early on, someone recommended I marinate chicken in buttermilk before baking.  It makes the chicken very moist and pouch friendly.  I bet it would be fine in your salad.  Give it a try...a little bit at a time.  :)  Good luck!

PS...what is this salad with buttermilk?  Do share!  :)

Jeff - what time is the casserole going to be done??? LOL  With any sausage or ground meats (chiken or turkey) I have to have it very fine and I do okay with it.  And I substiture turkey sausage for things that call for sausage and have very good results.
And I also can't think of a salad with buttermilk, so share that recipe with us.

Sounds like you have a plan...

I do fine with sausage - I am making the casserole for Christmas brunch - but I don't use the cream of mushroom soup - only sausage, eggs, bread, milk and cheese.  My family loves this one - I serve it with fruit and coffee or oj - and I plan to have some - as a matter of fact, I am looking forward to having some.

ok here is the salad recipe, its called "pink salad" My nieces came up with the name when s
he was 2 she loved and did not know what to call besides pink salad and it has stuck with it. I have not made it sugar free before so I hope it will work sf.

3 oz jello-strawberry, raspberry, or cherry.
8 oz can crushed pineapple- add enough water to make 2 cups. mix this and let it cool for a little while. (just boil the 2 cups and add jello instead of following box)

small cool whip 8 or 12 oz
1 cup buttermilk

you can add pecans if you like nuts.

Don't forget to keep stirring so that the cool whip and buttermilk don't clabber.

I am planning to try it with the sf cool whip and sf jello.
I would never know there was buttermilk in it, so if you don't like buttermilk don't let that stop you.

Everyone's different, but I've done very well with eggs and ground meats from early on.  Bread, is another story.  Still can't do much of it.

you could leave the bread out and make a crustless sausage egg and cheese quiche and use the crream of mushroom soup to top it off.

with God all things are possible.
