Probably a strange question/concern

I'm sure this is a strange question (or concern), but I'm going to ask anyway. My surgery is 4 weeks from today. This morning I started my period. My question is, if I get my period again in 4 weeks on the day of my surgery, will it be a problem. The reason I ask is because a couple of years ago when I had my gallbladder removed the nurse was really kind of ticked when she noticed I still had my underpants on under my gown. She said I had to remove my underpants, but I told her I couldn't because I had my period and was wearing a pad. She said she didn't know if the doctor would still do the surgery or not. Luckily, he still did. I didn't see what the big deal was, but I didn't know if this was something that I needed to be concerned with. I thought about calling the nurse tomorrow and asking about it, but I don't want to sound dumb. I also really do not want to have to reschedule my surgery. Plus what if I don't get my period that particular day? Then I would have changed for nothing. I'm assuming that it's really not a big deal and that maybe the nurse I had for my gallbladder surgery was a little strange, but I thought I'd put it out there and ask your opinions. Thanks.

Ok...not that I would know personally but, this happened to my wife when she had her RNY.  The very same thing, the morning of.  She was HUGELY upset, thinking they would reschedule her, but the doc and hospital staff said it was a "non-issue".  Your surgeon/hospital may vary...

Wow, didn't see this one coming.  LOL

Yeah, it's cool though.  I hang out alot at the (lowering voice) men's forum (normal voice), lots of great guys over there, but I can't forget my NC peeps.  I wouldn't suggest going to look, they get REALLY territorial "EWWW, GIRLS!!! GO AWAY!!!"  Yeah, really.  :)

Yeah, I know.  I've glanced in there once or twice when some of the crap has gone down.. but for the most part feel that you should have a private place to go that is a bit less estrogen-y.  I'm one of the gals that frequently will tell new guys about the Men's Forum in hopes they find some commraderie.

First of all you could probably use a tampon if you are on your cycle, but I certainly would not reschedule. Since there are more women WLS than men, I'll bet that this is a common issue and one they are used to dealing with. Secondly, it's very common for women start their cycle after surgery even if they were not 'scheduled' to start.

Call your surgeon's office, but don't worry about it.

I had my surgery on Dec 3, 2007 and was in my 2nd day of my period and it was not a problem.  They just gave me some funny looking underpants to wear and they gave me one of their pads to wear.  I could not wear my own but everything turned out fine.

Ok first off your gallbladder nurse was a moron and in the wrong profession.

now .. no you cannot wear a tampon to surgery - its usually in the instructions preop

These people are medical professionals, if they can't deal with menstruation, they're in the wrong line of work. You'll be fine, it won't stop your surgery......UNLESS..... you bleed so much you become anemic. But anemia will stop your surgery period or no.
