OT: BEST PRESENT EVER

I just got a phone call from my youngest son - he has given me the best present EVER - he just got his GED. School was never his thing and until last year he has struggled because of an undiagnosed learning disability. His HS guidance counselor suggested a program at the local community college and we decided to enroll him when school started up this year. It was the best thing "we" as a family have ever done (beside my RNY!!!).

He took his last exam this morning and the program head graded it on the spot and  - TADA - he passed. Merry Christmas to US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has finished school a year and a half ahead of his class. I am a proud Moma. I hate to admit it but I really thought this day may never come.

Congratulations Iris!!!.  I am very happy for you and your son.  What a wonderful Christmas present for the both of you.  I am a single parent with a son and I am also very proud when something good for him comes along.

Three of my six kids chose the GED route and I remember how relieved I was when I got the word they passed it. Two of them have gone on to college and my youngest is doing real well in her training program for HondaJet here in Greensboro. One more year of training and she will be a jet assembler and mechanic. The GED was worth it. Congrats to your son (and you) for acheiving it.

I am just thrilled for both of you, Iris!  I can SO relate to how you are feeling.  I was a single mom after the first 10 years with my son, and it just means so much when they do something that is good for them!
