Its been 1 week  and at my school today we had christmas goodies and I did great until the end of the day. Will this hurt me?

As long as you get right back on the wagon and stay there it shouldn't hurt you. The reason that some surgeons require a liquid diet preop is because they want your liver to be as small as possible and when you are losing weight the liver shrinks in size. Most of us that are obese have enlarged livers. The single biggest cause of laproscopic surgeries being switched to open is that the liver is too big for the surgeon to navigate around it, so it's important to work on getting that liver down in size. All of that said, falling off the wagon probably won't cause a problem as long as you get right back on and stay with the program.

Wishing you all the best,

Linda,

It's my pleasure and you are most welcome. As Dena mentioned, it's really very important that you stick to your program both pre and post op.

Wishing you all the best,

Depends on what it does to your weight and what your surgeon's requirements may be, and are you preop or postop?

If preop, the diet requirement may have a couple of reasons for being -- weight loss, liver shrinkage, and/or commitment.  If for weight loss, you really need to watch what you do -- my surgeon, for example, will weigh you and will cancel your surgery the morning you arrive at the hospital if your weight has increased any in the week before surgery.

If postop, then don't chance hurting your pouch by eating anything not on your program.  If you're supposed to be on liquids, stay on liquids for the time your surgeon directs you to do it.

This is not the easy way out.  Food is in our faces everywhere.  It's hard preop and postop.

I can't add to the wonderful advice you were given in the above responses.  But I will say that one of the best, unexpected side effects of my surgery is "guilt free" living.  You are forced to eat right, and the peace that comes with KNOWING you are doing the right thing is the best feeling of all.

Good luck with your surgery!
