I made it!!!
I'm home! Sore, groggy, very tired. Sipping my water. Walking around the house, then relaxing on the couch to sip some more. The worst part was not getting to drink anything for so many hours after surgery. I wet my mouth with the little sponge lillipop all night long. One funny thing happened. They say that when I woke up in the recovery room I was singing "Let It Snow." I guess that's appropriate for a Music Teacher like me, huh? I do remember as I lay there one of the doctors came up to me and asked the proverbial, "How are you feeling?" In my weakened, anesthetic-induced stupor I replied, "Fabulous, let's go dancing!"

Glad you're home and feeling like communicating.
Buckle in and get ready for the ride of your life!!
I remember wanting to drink so badly - and having to wait for the leak test - what they gave me was NOT what I had in mind!!
Sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk, and don't worry about anything else!

Yeah, welcome to the Losers Bench Meredith. It's great to hear that things went well and that you are home. I remember the dry mouth like it was yesterday... that was the worst thing for me....
Well, buckle in and hang on for the ride! Alice

Hey Pam! I'm still doing pretty good and I'm 3 days post-op now. Feeling better every day. Make sure you drink plenty of water the night before your surgery because it's gonna be a LONG time before they let you drink again. That was, by far, the hardest part. When your mouth gets dry after surgery ask about those tiny sponges on a stick you can dip in water to wet your mouth. They kept me alive and kept me from losing my mind. I had to swab my mouth all night long that first night after surgery because my mouth was so dry. The nurse will tell you that you are not dehydrated because you're hooked to fluids, but that's little consolation when your gums are sticking to your cheeks and your mouth is so dry it's hard to talk. My sweet mom, bless her heart, hired a home health sitter to come up to my room and sit with me overnight to make sure I had everything I needed. That sitter was a lifesaver! She arranged my pillows for me, handed me my sponge lollipop throughout the night, helped me get up and down from the bed, walked with me in the hallway, etc. That first night was especially a chalenge since it was hard to get comfortable. She was such a Godsend! I would highly recommend you have someone with you at all times while in the hospital. The nurses can't be there all the time when you need things. GOOD LUCK!!
Also, get yourself a pill crusher to take your pills when you get home.
The reason I posted from the PRE-op room was because we had to wait forever! The nurse let my husband come back there with me in the pre-op waiting area where all the other patients were who were waiting for their surgery. When my husband came back he had his laptop! We were bored, so we went online! LOL! I enjoyed having my laptop at the hospital. Not all hospitals have wireless service though. If you want to take your laptop, call ahead to your hospital and see if they have wireless service.
