Ben's home and doing well
Ben cam home from Durham Regional Hospital yesterday afternoon. I have to say that the whole experience there was top notch. The care from check-in, to surgery, to visits from the Dr's, nurses and support staff was great. They've added a new bariatrics wing to the 6th floor that is great. It's complete with larger doors, bathrooms, chairs, etc... All of the food trays came with a wide assortment of fluids and protiens that were appropriate.
While DRH was great, as was the staff, it's always great to get home to your own bed. Ben slept better last night. He's exhausted right now and recovering from taking that first shower ... you remember that. Feeling almost human again until that wall of fatigue hits you.
He's been doing a great job of working on getting in the protien and fluids. He's found some he doesn't like and some that are tolerable. Thanks so much to Jennifer Chamberlain for sharing some of her Isopure. It's one that Ben finds easier to get down. I need to try a few so that Ben can find a 'flavor' he likes, but the consistency is much easier to tolerate than some of the other things that he's been trying.
Thanks to all for the well wishes.

Hi Iris,
You are right. There is nothing like getting to sleep in your own bed. I and my daughter are working on taking care of me while we both take care of Ben. Ben's even doing a pretty good job of taking care of himself. He just got back from a short walk outside.
Thanks again for the good wishes,
Barbara

Hi Shauna,
I know what you mean about the lingering shower fatigue. I know that some folks bounce right back and are into their normal routine in a week, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. I think it takes a few weeks to get back to some semblance of normalcy.
Thanks for the good wishes,

I know you are both glad he is home, some times be with family at the hospital can wear you out more than the patient. I know Ben is glad to be home. It was so much easier to reat at home and not e woken all the time to take blood, temp, bp. That frst show felt so great, but it was nap time right after. I am glad he is doing well.
