I have paperwork proving I'm full of it
For the last 4 months I have been breezing through this post-op program - no problems of anykind. This morning, I woke up at 4 a.m. doubled over in pain. It felt like someone was stabbing me. I tried hard not to panic - hoped and prayed it was just gas - so I walked the floors for about 30 minutes. It was only getting worse. I went to wake up my oldest son -SURPRISE - he didn't come home last night. So I went to wake up Wayne and as soon as I opened his door he jumped out of the bed (this child usually sleeps through everything - firealarms, alarm clocks, storms) I must have really scared him. He was dressed and shuffled me out the door to the ER in less than 5 minutes.
5 hours of poking, proding, CT scan, blood work and what have you - I left the ER with paperwork basically saying what my family already knew - I was full of it. Constipation, mild dehydration and the onset of a UTI. The really good news is how wonderfuly the ER at the local hospital handled me. Our local hospital is really small and has a reputation of being a good place to have a baby but that's about it. Somehow they're part of the HEALTH EAST system that Pitt Memorial (where I had my surgery) is in. The Doc was young and took a lot of time to go over what she was doing and how she was first and foremost ruling out any leaks, kinks, blockages or problems in the surgical areas.
When they brought the contrast that I needed to drink for the CT scan. She took the first one away and came back a few minutes later. SHe wanted to see for herself that it wasn't carbonated. When the nurses said I had to drink it within 30 minutes - she explained that I had to sip more slowly than other patients and she expected that it would take me at least an hour to fini**** then she made sure that the antibiotic for the infection was agreeable to bypass patients.
Apparently my intestines had a spasm that she likened to a charlie horse in your leg. It lasted for about 2 hours and I'm still really sore.

I am sorry you had to have this happen. I get really worried if I don't produce daily. I hope you can work all of it out soon.

Iris I'm so sorry you have been in so much pain and let me just say I've had those spasm before surgery and your right it doubles you over and to me I could feel it moving but it wasn't from constipation but rather I think it was from the fluid pills I took especially if I didn't take a potassium pill with it. But glad you went to the ER. Feel better.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I feel so much better today. The son was home when I got home from the ER but I just wasn't up to addressing the issue with him. We had a big family dinner tonight and Wyane brought it up while everyone was at the table - HA!!! I don;t think he'll be staying out again without letting his Moma know where he's at. His GrandDad is a Southern Baptist Minister and well - let's just say they had a prayer meeting about it.

Oh gosh, I have so BTDT and it is absolutely miserable..."charlie horse" of the intestine is a perfect description. On a couple of occasions, mine triggered black outs and seizures! Regardless, it takes awhile to recover from, like you've been run over by a truck. So glad you are feeling better and I hope it NEVER happens to you again! {{{Hugs}}}
