I am not losing weight! Help!!!

I had roux-en y on Nov. 5th.  While drinking the protein drinks I was averaging about a 2 pound/day weight loss.  I started soft solids on Nov. 26 and I haven't lost a pound since starting solid foods!  It has been almost 2 weeks and I am getting VERY frustrated.  I need some advise/encouragement.  I think I am eating appropriately.  I have never been sick, nauseous or had any pain associated with eating.  Does anyone have any advise or suggestions.  Thank you!

Relax!  This is perfectly normal.  There is NOTHING you can do right now to prevent your body from losing weight, so don't think you are causing this in any way.  Of course it is important to establish good habits early on and this surgery sure gives us that ability to do so.  That being said, relax!  Your body is just taking a "breather" as it adjusts to this new "starvation mode" you have it on.  It is trying to keep you alive by adapting your metabolism to your new eating habits.  It won't beat the surgery, however, and before you know it, you will see the scales drop again.  I'm not going to bother to tell you to stay away from the scales every day... someone else will, I am sure!  LOL

Thank you for the encouragement and the information!  I understand the plateau but it is scary after 2 weeks to think that I haven't lost anything.  Especially when it started with the solid foods!  I will be patient and stay off the scales for a few more days.  Thanks again.

First of all, congratulations on your WLS and welcome to the loser's bench.

Next, please know that you the stall you are experiencing, while frustrating, is absolutlely normal and doesn't have anything to do with starting soft foods. It's just a coincidence that it happened at the same time. I had my first stall when I was only 10 days out. It normally happens somewhere between 10 days and 4 weeks, so you are right on cue. Just stay with the program that has been laid out for you, get in as much protien and hydration as you can. Be sure to keep walking and the weight will come off.... Since, it's been about 2 weeks, it's likely to be sooner than later.

Wishing you all the best,

Thank you for the knowledge and encouragement.  I have decided to stay off the scales for another week in hopes that I will not become discouraged and worried.  I am exercising daily and 'think" that I am eating as instructed.  Hopefully the pounds will start shedding soon.  Thanks again!

I have to admit to having had a love/hate relationship with the scale and like a silly school girl with a crush, I just couldn't stay away from the scales. I'd get on them several times a day. Finally, I decided that I could get on and off them as many times as I wanted, but I was only going to 'chart' the weight once a week, first thing in the morning. I used my surgery day as the day of the week I weighed. So while I continued to get on and off of the scales, I charted the weekly progress... you can see it on my profile if you check some of the early months and then I switched to the tracker on OH. At any rate, when I charted my weekly weight movement, I saw a steadier picture. What seemed like 1 step forward, 2 steps back with my daily (or multiple times daily) weighing actually showed reasonable steady progress when plotted from week to week. Sure there were some stalls, but they were as long or bad as I thought at the time.

Other people only weigh once a month or when they go see their Dr. Some don't weigh, they just go by how their clothes are fitting.

Whatever you do, know that you will be successful if you stay with the plan. You may make a mistake or two along the way, but that's not going to derail you or keep you from losing. If you make a mistake, just pick up where you left off and keep going.

Wishing you all the best,
