BMI too high Please recommend a new surgeon!

My surgeon said my BMI is too high 56.1 and he only accepts up to 55.  I have been waiting for this surgery for almost 2 years and he tells me it will be at least another 6 months and he will re-evaluate.
Please can anyone recommend a surgeon in the Charlotte area that may consider me now...

If I am not mistaken I think that in general they will want you to loose befor surgery. So with that in mind your BMI would obviously drop. Best of wishes. I know this can be very hard preop..hang in there.

That was my argument to him, but I was told I would have to enroll in a controlled diet program for 6 months in order to be re-evaluated.  That re-evaluation would require all my testing work to be redone.
Losing all hope at this point ...

Don't loose hope. If this is something you feel u need, Jump through the hoops hun , we all that are post op have been there. My insurance required 12 months. Soo six months is really not too bad. Hang in there!

Dont Ever Give Up
The pre testing insurance approval it is I think harder than surgery.
It took me almost three years to get a date but I hung in there because I knew in my heart this was right for me.
My highest weight in 98 was 680lbs I took control and lost 300lbs on my own long before I thought about surgery.
It took dedication and determination and most of all a will to live.
After loosing the first 300 I hit a stall and a slow encrease of my weight starting again.
I was determined to get control and that is when I choose to have RNY.
Having wls is tough and it is not the easy way out in fact I think since surgery it is even harder but so worth it.
When I began my wls journey I switched programs in mid stream and yes by doing so I had to have some test over again.
I am happy I made the switch to a different program in fact the UNC party is on the 16th I am looking forward to it and looking forward to telling my surgeon again for giving me a chance to get my life back.
I will always be grateful to him and his staff.
Feel free to PM anytime.

Try Jon Pirrello.   When I first saw him I was 394 and 5'4" (so my BMI was 64ish).   He asked me to drop to about 350 (so my BMI was only 60) because it would make the surgery much less risky.  I lost to 356 (BMI of 61) by the day of surgery and he was pleased.
Now each person's health situation is different, so you may have issues/reasons that I didn't.  But it wouldn't hurt to ask him!
Good luck!

Hi. I noticed in your blog that in 2007 you were going to see a Dr. Kuwanda? What happened with that?

I'm sorry about the bad experience with Southeast Bariatrics. Dr. Voellinger is going to do my VSG and I just loved him from the first minute I met him. He was recommended to me by a co worker. She didn't care much for his staff but she really admired him. Since I've been going,
I've mentioned some names to her and she stated that he must have alot of new ladies because she didn't recognize any of the names so maybe you would like it better now.
I really don't care about the staff, just the Dr. and I really like Dr. V.

Hope it works out for you

Welcome to the NC board - I know you will find lots of good information and great support here.
Now I would look at my insurance to guide me about surgeons.  Who is in your network?  And what are the insurance requirements?  a supervised diet - a certain BMI with co-morbidities?
After I knew what the insurance is willing to do then I would look at the surgeons.  I used a surgeon in Hickory and my BCBS NC gave automatic approval because Hickory is a Center of Excellence.

So do your homework - print out the policy with the information needed and then go get 'em....
Don't be discouraged by the hoops - just find the one best for you....
