Had staples removed today instead of Thursday
Hubby stopped to get me Neosporin with pain reliever in it on the way home last night. Please, pre-ops, do NOT follow my lead. I got a good lecture today at the clinic for: 1. Putting anything on my incisions and 2. For looking at my bottom incision without a mirror. I've pulled it apart some and we are now hope, hope, hoping it will go back together without any trouble because it cannot be restiched/stapled. I wish I had known not to do this! Also, putting Neosporin or anything like that ON the incisions can cause them to pull apart as well. Argh! What have I done? Anyway, the staples came out fine but were a bit owie because of the pain/inflammation.
I've lost 19 lbs. according to their scales, so I almost match them exactly! (They do weigh me 3-4 lbs. heavier though...later in the day, clothes on -versus- morning nekkid here at home.) My waist size has not changed a lick though they do the measurement over clothes and I was in a sweater today. They said that there is definitely swelling for awhile post-op so that makes sense. I'm going to take all of my measurements again at 1 month.
They want me to start a walking plan but I am still WIPED OUT after just 10 minutes of showering, cleaning, etc. I am going to see how I feel this weekend. I may hit the gym treadmill for a short while each day since hubby would be there to peel me off the floor if need-be!
OH, I had another hypoglycemic spell a bit ago. It had been a little over 4 hours since I'd last eaten so I am definitely going to need to stay on a 3-4 hour schedule to keep this under control. I get to bump up to the next eating level this weekend. Besides meat, I can't remember what all else it includes.
When I got to the weight-loss clinic, they asked me to wait in the room across the hall for a few minutes where an information class was gathering, filling out their paperwork. I had to start chit-chatting about how I am 11 days post-op, hoping I'd be an encouraging voice to someone, when Lisa piped up and asked, "Are you Shauna?" I am so glad Shelli has encouraged me to keep my avatar my photo...I wouldn't meet people like this otherwise! Lisa, please let me know what you thought of the class today...I am so excited for you!
So that's the latest scoop on me. I told Lisa that I'm just as yacky in person as I am on the forums! lol
{{{Hugs}}} to all!
I'm sorry you had to go through this but I'm glad it wasn't any worse!!! Neosporin isn't as great as a lot of people think it is. My (regular) Doctor told me years ago not to use it. I hope you heal quickly and with no further complications!
I love sitting in the waiting room (for a FEW minutes) before going in to see my WLS doctor, it's great meeting all the nice people and hearing about where they are in the process. I always mention OH and have seen a few of them online so that's cool.
Ok, I'm not going to babble on... Keep up the great work, but don't pu**** too much yet, you're still recovering from the surgery itself. Walk around in your house or something for a few days until you're feeling stronger! I also had problems with hypoglycemia and had to eat every couple hours. Just be careful, we don't want to have to send EMS out to you because you passed out from overdoing it and not eating. Take care girl!

Oh please, do babble on...then I don't look so ridiculous! hehehe
I wanted to ask you... Did the hypoglycemia get better for you with time, or are you still dealing with it? I can use all the advice and input I can get on this matter.
Regarding "exercise"... Right now I'm at a point that I'd much rather get up and do some housework (minus any lifting) rather than walk non-productively on a treadmill. Ya know?
Making a mental note about the Neosporin. I actually used it last night/this morning more for the "pain relief" ingredient!
Ok, you asked for it... lol! Babble babble here it is... lol!
My hypoglycemia did get better with time but I did have to eat every couple hours for about a year. I still have bouts once in a while but I just eat a little peanut butter (shhh...) or some cheese and feel much better. I had diabetis pre-WLS and I was just recently told by my NUT (I had never been to a NUT prior to last week, we didn't have to do that when I had my WLS) anyway, she told me that a lot of Diabetis WLS patients have this problem afterwards for a while. Our bodies are just going through so much change that it has to get used to all at once (my interpretation... lol). Anyway, just make sure to keep your sugars stable and you shouldn't have a problem. After my WLS my doc didn't tell me to take my sugar levels and he took me off my meds the day of surgery. I wish I would have taken them anyway so I could have identified the hypoglycemia before it happened. Ok, enough of that... lol!
I totally understand how you feel about exercise right now and I think that's enough, give your body a little while to heal before you get crazy... walking is the best thing for you right now. Remember that vacuuming is bad right now too - not just lifting - oh, and don't do what I did... 1 week after WLS I went to Wal-Mart by myself and pushed a cart around (didn't think pushing a cart was just as bad as lifting).... My cart probably weighed 100 lbs - had dog and cat food, cat litter and all kinds of groceries... Take my word for it, that is NOT a good thing!!! I seem to remember many many lectures I got for that and boy oh boy was I in pain!!!
Don't use that Neosporin any more... Do I need to go over to your house and remove it??? LOL! I know it hurts, but you're not helping it with the neo... ok, enough of the lecture.
I hope you feel better soon girl!!!!!!!

I am really glad to hear that your hypoglycemia got better with time. I am hell-bent on keeping mine under control with eating every 3-4 hours. I pm'd Andrea for some more advice awhile ago...I know she is knowledgable in this area and I would love to know what types of things to eat. My clinic and nut recommend the peanut butter. Did you enjoy your visit to the nut last week?
Oh lordy about the cart! That's one thing that triggers my sciatica sooo bad...pushing a heavy cart, vaccuuming, mopping, etc. I'm not used to running the vaccuum because of that, so I'll keep telling the fam I can't. Darn. (Not! lol) I've just been doing the tidying, dusting...wiping bathroom sinks, potties, the floors around them...and wiping kitchen counters, appliances, fronts of cabinets, etc. All the deep-cleaning was done just prior to surgery, so if I stay on top of the little things, it will last awhile. Windex is my friend. lol
Neosporin is going to hit the trash can I guess then. That'll be weird not having it in my daughter's sports first-aid kit! You're sure about this? lol (Ducking frying pan!)
{{{Hugs!!!}}}
Ok, too bad you don't live closer because I'd trade vacuuming and I'd even throw in doing the laundry if I could get someone to dust, tidy and clean bathrooms - whew, I do it but I don't like it! lol! Rex sure doesn't do it either.. lol, ok... I better be good, he's sitting right here reading over my shoulder - ouch, don't bite Rex... lol!!!!

I had a good visit with my NUT last week and she actually told me I'm not doing as badly as I thought I was doing (I had to keep a journal - yuck yuck yuck I HATE doing that). I was happy to hear that I wasn't beyond repair (28lbs gained in 3 years). I have already made some changes and I can tell I've lost a little (I'll weigh myself on Friday). I just have to remember the drink rules (drink 30 minutes before and after but not during meals - that's a hard one for me), and remember protein, then veggies, then carbs if I have room. That's really all I have changed so far. I have another appointment in a month so we'll see. The holidays will be a test, but Thanksgiving wasn't bad. I can already tell that my WLS tool still works 6 years later and I haven't done damage to it.
Ok, I'm going to bed... I worked 18 hours last night/today and I'm getting slap silly... Take care girl!!! Talk with ya soon!
Sheryl
I'll bet the reason your doc told you that is the very reason my nurse told me that today...it actually prevents the healing of an open wound by keeping it wet. Open wounds need to be kept dry to heal properly. Wow. I'm thankful to now know this!
And who said I LIKE to dust, tidy, clean bathrooms?! I LOVE the results however! lol
Glad your visit with your nut went so well and you had an affirmation about how you've been doing. I HATE the journaling stuff too and am being really stubborn about doing it now that I'm post-op. I'm also just trying to work on the "rules" and not have to journal. I suppose if my weight-loss goes in the gutter, I'll have to reevaluate my choices and consider journaling, but so far, so good. I was told not to count calories, which was such a relief. I am sooo sick of *dieting* like that. I guess journaling also makes me feel like I'm *dieting." I just want to live by some rules about making good choices...the right choices...then I'll be happy. Good luck with the holidays...I know you'll do fine!
Tell Rex I said howdy!
Shauna, looks like you are just ahead of schedule! Sorry the incisions were beginning to get yucky though! Thanks for the heads up! Looking at my incisions like that sounds like something that I would do! LOL
Those hypoglycemic spells sound a lot like what I have when I go too long without eating also. Please just be careful we need you here!
19 lbs already!! Wow! You go girl!
Wow you're WLS is coming up quickly, I'm sure you probably felt like it would never get here though. Anyway, just wanted to wish you the best of luck and let you know you'll be in my thoughts and prayers! I'll be waiting to hear from your angel about how well you did. We'll get polishing that spot for you on the loosers bench!!!
Take care of yourself!!!!

Since I'm 11 days post-op, I feel like I should have lost 11 pounds, not 9.2. Aren't I goofy? It's my "nothing's ever good enough" syndrome, but I'm trying to shake that...I really AM doing well and I am ever so thankful for that! I hope you do just as well, if not better (minus the incision and hypoglycemia drama!).
You doing okay???????????
