Raleigh area Support Group for DSers?

Hello! I'm going to KY for my revision from RNY to DS next week and won't have the support that I'd like to post-op when I come home. I'll have my family's support which I'm grateful for but I would also like to know some patients too.   :-)
Are there any groups around here that someone could give me information about?
Thank-you in advance!

Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of DSers in the area.

Angela P. comes to a group meeting in Raleigh and she's working through the process (denial hell) to get her DS -- eventually, she will need someone to talk with in the area.  You might look her up -- she lives in Durham.

Hi Andrea.  I thought I might have trouble finding very many DSers in the area.  What support group do you go to?  I don't know of any in the area at all... DS or not.
Thanks again.

Hi,

I live in western NC and am pre op for the DS, with Dr. Dennis Smith in GA.  We don't have a support group yet but are considering starting one.  I'm not sure where you are-- but you would be welcome to meet with us.  It would be me and two other post-op DSers.

I think I'd be pretty far from you but I wish you luck in starting a group!  :-)

Hi Tabitha,

I don't know of a DS specific group, but I have a very large group that meets once a month in Raleigh NC. We have people at all stages of their journey and representing all surgery types including DS. You are most welcome to join us. You can get information about upcoming events at http://wls.meetup.com/101. Just sign up and you'll get notices about any upcoming events. Our group is so large that while I'll keep having the general monthly meetings, I am starting to add some specific interest meetings. We've add a Grads Group for folks at least 1 yr post op. I considering a group for people who start with a BMI over 50, another for "Banders" and if there is interest we could do one for DS. These are open to anyone who is interested, but the focus is on a specific subject.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara
