How long were you out of work?
I was out 3 weeks, they told me to plan on 4 weeks. I easily could have went back to work in 1 week. Everyone is different. I feel I had a text book case with no complications or pain. We live on the Lake, so I took those extra two weeks to soak up the sun. :) No regrets. Only problem is that time flys by. LOL Good Luck.
I'm two weeks post op and had my return Dr's visit this past Wednesday. The doctor had released me for two weeks after surgery, but I told him I didn't feel ready. My job is very fast paced and stressful. So he wrote me a note to have two more weeks off. I will return on 12/13/08, which is a total of four weeks. Everyone is different, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Listen to your body and don't be afraid to tell your doctor you don't feel ready. One more week can make the world of difference.
Good luck on your journey. I hope you enjoy your time off and the holidays.

I am a Dr. Bauman patient. I had a great postop course. I was out of work one week and went back without any difficulty. He will let you be the judge as to when you feel ready to return to normal activities like work. I couldn't go back to wor****il I was able to drive, and that meant taking a week off -- you can't drive while taking pain medicine, either.
It also depends on what type of work you do. I am a registered nurse. I am one of the nurses who will probably take care of you when you come in for your surgery. Good luck, and I'll see you soon!

I had surgery with dr b and he would only approve 3 weeks and then 1/2 days for a week or two.
The half days didn't fly with the disability company because of the formula they use. I needed every bit and then some. I was very fatigued during that time. I'm actually still fatigued but it's not WLS related.
Dr B is by the book along with the dietician. Good Luck and follow his directions.
Just remember you have some say in how long your out. If you have disability take all the time. Rumor is that my old company stopped covering WLS - but I don't know how true that is. I had United Health Care at the time.
Just now getting to the boards.
I took 2 full weeks and 1 week of half days. I needed the week of half days, I was tired when I returned to work and was ready to go home by 11:30 or 12:00.

I have a new philosophy, I'm only going to dread one day at a time. Charlie Brown
Dr. Bauman did my surgery on the 28th of Dec. I was only out of work for one week. I was never sick for one day and things went really well for me other than one trip to the hosp. due to dehydration. Just remember to sip a lot of liquid even when you don't want to!!
I have lost 100 lbs and went from a size 20 to a 4. I just had a Tummy Tuck and was out for one week with that as well.
Good luck, and yes he is by the book, but you will know how you feel and if you have a desk job, you should be good.
