How long were you out of work?

My surgery is one week from today! I am soooo ready! So, if I stay out of work for 2 weeks, I'll be going back on Christmas week. I hope I'm doing well enough to go back, but to be honest deep down inside I would love to stay out another week, especially since it's Christmas week.
How long were you out with RNY?
Especially Dr Baumans patients, he's pretty "by the book" so what do you think?

Everyone and every procedure is different but for me, I took 2 weeks off and probably could have gone back after only 1 week off. But I scheduled followup appointments, haircuts, dentist appointments and what have you for that 2nd week. The only restriction I had was no lifting but that would only effect about 1% (if that much) of my job. I work for the county as a deputy register of deeds.

Good Luck - I know how excited you are.

I took 2 weeks also and I was fine.  I was a little wiped out at the end of those first few days but other than that, it was all good.

Congrats on your surgery, the next week wil fly by! My Dr signed me out for 4 weeks but i was having trouble getting my protein and water in so she would not release me for another 2 weeks. I go back to work on Monday.

I was out for 2 weeks went back to work for about 2 days and then had to take the rest of the week off.  So in all 2 1/2 weeks.  I think you have to be careful and don't go back to soon, just listen to your body.  Best wishes for a complete success.

I am a teacher and had my surgery in July so I did not have to worry about time out.  However, I suppose it all depends on your threshold for pain.  I could have easily gone back to work after one week.  (But I tend to bounce back quickly)..

Hi Cindy,

I don't work, so I don't know that I'm a great one to answer this question... but I found that is was similar to when I had my gall bladder out right after Sarah was born. At that point, I was out for 1 month, but I was also nursing a new baby. Ben has his surgery scheduled for 12/11 and he is scheduled to be off until 1/12, which I think I pretty standard.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery,

Barbara

Hi, Cindy -

My surgery was 11/18 - I'm going back to work on Mon, 12/1.  When I asked Dr. G about going back to work, his nurses said it it would be 4-6 weeks, but he told me, "I know you'll be able to go back in 2!"  So, that's what I'm doing.

I FEEL great and have NO pain ... haven't taken any pain meds since getting home so I'm good to drive.  Getting a little cabin feverish and can't wait to get back to work.

I weighed yesterday and am down 28 lbs from when I started all liquid presurgical diet. (Nov 4th to yesterday).  Not too shabby!!!!

Good luck -
