I am so thankful for...

Ok, it may be a little cheesy, but I feel the need to holler out just how thankful I am for several things in my life:  This will be my first Thanksgiving PostOp, so I have a brand new list of things to be thankful for.

-First of course, the opportunity to have this life changing surgery that has helped me shed 118 pounds.
-My progressive-thinking insurance company that covered about 95% of the cost.
-My wife, who also has had her life changed by this phenomenal tool (I mean the surgery, perverts!)  And who keeps me on-track in my daily life.  Think: "Put those cookies down!"
-My children who will have only vauge memories of an unhappy, unhealthy Dad and will hopefully only remember me as I am today.  Engergetic, in control, and focused on the future.
-My friends at OH.com who have been a huge part of my support system before, during, and after my surgery and weight loss.  Thanks everyone!
-My family, who even though never gets tired of telling me I'm "too thin", have been with me the whole way.
-An understanding, supportive employer who told me to "take as much time as you need" when it came time for the surgery.
-Coworkers and friends who keep me on track and focused and who tell me how great I'm doing almost daily.
-And finally, the growing accpetance and availabllity of WLS to others who will walk this road behind me.  Best of luck to them.

Happy Thanksgiving

Jason

Hi Jason,

I love the thankful thread that you started and could see myself in so many of the things that you had to say...

My husband Ben had his appointment with his surgeon today. He's soooo nervous and excited about the changes that are about to come and I'm feeling the same way for him.

Soooo.... Here's my list... I'm thankful

- Being able to have this life-changing surgery that has allowed me to shed a whole person and emerge the new woman that I am today.

- Finding the health that was once rapidly slipping away… My type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hemochromatosis and high cholesterol have all resolved.

- I have a level of energy, flexibility, strength and endurance that I have not had in over 3 decades. It’s absolutely life-affirming.

- I am so incredibly grateful for the skill of my daughter’s surgeon, her medical insurance, my mother’s help, the enormous support of Ronald McDonald house, her fabulous physical therapist, and her school staff in enabling us to help Sarah have her surgery to resolve a significant birth defect that impacted her quality of life every bit as much as my obesity impacted mine. This has been HUGE for Sarah and for us… truly on the same scale as WLS.

- I am also grateful that Ben has been approved for and is on the road to having his own WLS through the very competent program at DukeWLS. I look forward to his experiencing the positive, life-changing benefits himself. I can hardly wait for his metamorphosis to unfold.

- I am so very grateful for the support that I receive here on the boards at OH as well as in person when we have our support group meetings. I have been blessed with a cadre of friends that I never dreamed of through the journey that we are all taking together. It is a blessing that I never anticipated.

Thanks for starting this thread Jason...

It's very important that each of us reflect on what we have in our lives that we are thankful for.  My list is really short, but I think covers the big ticket items in my life.  I am thankful for:

- a wonderful and supportive wife and daughter
- a great support group within my OH family, close friends, and many coworkers who constantly are telling me how well I am doing
- the new lease on life that I have been given thru the weight loss opportunity provided to me by BCBS, my employer, and my very skilled surgeon

Yes there are many other things that I am truly thankful for this year, but for Thanksgiving 2008, these top my list.  May you and yours have a very peaceful and joyful Holiday season.

 Great thread Jason!

I am thankful for:

- The opportunity to have this surgery at a clinic that educated me and for what I was getting into.  It allowed me to be prepared for the life-changes that would occur as I lost over 100 lbs.  Their support after the fact has been and continues to be phenomenal.

- Support from family and friends.  Absolutely everyone close to me has been fully encouraging, enjoying every change and accomplishment as if it was happening to them.  This includes my OH family - you guys are incredible support and I've loved learning from you as you've changed along with me!

- Last but most definitely not least, I'm thankful for the new life that we can hardly wait to meet come April!  A combination of me and who I think is the most incredible man in the world.  Wow, it's actually starting to sink in now.  :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ahhh, Thanksgiving.  I am SOOO thankful for:

-This life changing WLS that has me more active than I have been in years

-Our daughter for paying for this life changing WLS for me

-That my DH has also decided to have WLS and should be 'banded' sometime in January.

-All of my family and friends and the knowledge that I will be around to enjoy them all for many years to come.

I am thankful for

being able to have this surgery and not encountering any obstacles along the way.

having a supportive husband and family all around me.

having my friends here on OH and in person (anniep59, Shauna, Mirtis, Iris, Pam, and many more).

the many laughs I have received from postings and all the advice and warnings along the way that made me think and do the better things so I can have great results.

I hope that this will continue on for years to come for all of us.
