Protein Ideas Please!
Hey Guys,
Well, I need some help. I am a year post- op and I have fallen off the protein wagon. Well, I don’t think I was ever really on it. I have found recipes and all that good stuff, but I need some easy and fast ideas too. I go to school, so it’s hard to have a good lunch. Breakfast is hard for me too, I am not big on eggs, but I am willing to try them again. But I am barely getting any protein at all…
So, anyone willing to post their daily food intake and maybe ideas for me. I really need to get my protein in. Not only to hopefully get off my stale but to be healthier. Thanks!
I also make roll ups with the deli meat, string cheese and a little honey mustard to dip in.
Some days I double up on the protein mix and have a shake for a meal replacement.
I take left over chili and have it for breakfast or lunch.
I take tuna salad and chicken salad and have it over the shredded lettuce or baby greens, throw on some shredded cheese and a little dressing. Add a few chopped pecans for flavor and a little extra protein.
I have sf pudding with cookies and cream protein powder added for breakfast some days.
I also buy pintos and cheese from taco bell and have it some times - not very often, but some days just to throw in something different.
I also love to buy the Perdue Short cuts chicken (BJS has 3 packs in a box for $9.99 - and 1 pack makes 3-4 meals) and heat it by itself to eat, or put heated or cold over the salad.
As you can see, I love meat and it sits well in my pouch.
If you find a roasted chicken on sale (Harris Teeter has good ones and Costco has wonderful, huge ones) it's good by itself or over the salad.
If I eat chicken or turkey by itself I will have a few slices of cukes or a tomato slice, a few grapes or pineapple tidbits or a few mandrin orange sections.
I would love to hear what other people do.
Sometimes when I really do not want to eat, I have an OYeah protein meal replacement bar for breakfast.

Two cups a day is all it takes! LOL
For bfast I eat a about a cup of greek yogurt drizzled w/honey and mixed with a 3rd packet of kashi hot cereal (I mix it in dry so its like granola). Greek yogurt is packed with protein - on average (depends on brand) a cup has 20g... its a great meal/snack - you can use it in place of mayo... I prefer a 50/50 mix thou - make chicken salad or tuna salad and sub 1/2 the mayo w/greek yogurt. You can also use it in lieu of sour cream in recipies (like on tacos) or as a mix for dip (or again do 50/50 w/sour cream).
Lunch/Dinner - wraps as listed above.. take deli meat, slice of cheese, I like a sandwich pickle too and wrap in a low carb bread or use lettuce. grilled chicken on a salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, those tuna lunch kits, left overs from dinner are all good choices. I love making ground meat taco style and putting it on a salad with some cheese/sour cream. Taco soup is one of my favorites too, you can find recipies online (I use all no salt added or reduced sodium ingrediants thou because it is very salt heavy if you dont. I also love taco style chicken in the crock pot... (I love mexican)... basically anything with chicken and then I eat red meat twice a week.
Here is what I ate today
B - NSA chai tea latte w/soy
S - 3rd cup greek yogurt w/honey & cereal mixed in
L - salad (leaf lettuce, spinach, carrots, cukes, celery and FF dressing), grilled chicken on a whole wheat bun
S - 3/4ths cup cottage cheese 2% mixed w/ a table spoon of flax, 1/2 an organic banana
S - I usually do an afternoon snack since I eat dinner later (I work 2 jobs)... ill either eat a fiber one bar or some 2% cheese and crackers
D - not sure about tonite... I leave for vacation tomorrow so I was thinking of making a rotissary waldorf salad. I buy a rotissery chicken breast at the store and pull off the meat and chop it up. The make a salad of leaf lett, spinach, carrots, cukes, celery, sharp white cheddar, chopped grapes, green apple slices and walnuts and put the chicken on top, drizzle with FF balsamic vinagrette.
The same rotissery chicken breast I use to make my chicken salad - I mix with 50/50 mayo and greek yogurt, a squirt of miracle whip, pepper, onion, celery, dried cranberries and almonds slivers... soo yummy, I eat plain or on melba toast. You can also use it as a base for chicken taco (or taco salad) just chop up, season and mircowave and you are good to go. Some rotissery chicken can be high in salt so if you can find 'natural' thats good, or ask how they season..

I have found that I can get the "all whites" from egg beaters to beat to meringue (I add a little cream of tartar - a pinch or so). Then I beat in splenda and maybe a little vanilla - I either cook them as forgotten cookies or just eat it as is. (It's pasteurized so is ok to eat like that).
I like making fat free sugar free pudding with Calorie Countdown in the green carton which is only 45 calories per 8 oz.
You can find turkey meatballs or bacon that only requires a couple of minutes in the microwave.
And I second the deli meats and cheese ideas.
I also use protein shakes or bars as needed to make sure I get in the protein.
Oh, I also like cottage cheese.
