How Quickly will BCBSNC approve?

Last week I had my Psych visit.  It went well.  I had my Pulmonary visit 2 weeks ago.  My Nut visit is tomorrow and next week will be my endoscopy and ultrasound along with cardiology.  I'm having my surgery with Dr. Chris Mann at Southern Surgical and I have BCBSNC.  My BMI is 39.5 with 2 co-morbidities. 

With my appointments out of the way next week, will my paperwork be sent to BCBS?  I've heard they are pretty quick to approve or deny.  Can anybody tell me their experience and how fast things went.  Also my PCP has sent in weight history.  I did not need a 6 months of visit to PCP for weight loss. 

Can hardly wait.  I don't want to chicken out!!!!!

Hi Deb,  I am also a patient for Southern Surgical, but my doctor is Dr MacDonald.  Once I finshed all my preOp testing and I had my history appt with him, they submitted for approval to my insurance on Monday and I heard on Thursday.  I also have BCBS.  Then they scheduled me only 2 weeks later for Nov 6th.  Once all your testing is done, you have to see the doc again, then they submit to insurance for approval.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Within 48 hours I found out I was approved!

Well that gives me something to look forward too.  I think I'm looking at about the first of Dec. if everything goes well.  Thank you for your input.  Sounds exciting.  Will keep you posted.

Deborah,  Sounds like you won't have to wait long at all for your approval!  Good luck with finishing up these last few visits.  Don't you dare chicken out now!  lol 

I have BCBSNC and was approved the same day!! I was told it was because I was having my surgery in a designated "Center Of Excellence".  Honestly, I have never had such a great insurance company. I was even assigned a BCBS nurse that called me and answered questions and offered to help me in anything I needed. 
I have a suggestion though......after your final appointments, call your surgeon's office and keep asking if the paperwork has been sent to the insurance company until they say yes.
Sometimes it gets held up in the mountain of cases they are working on. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
