I am 11 months out and I am dying for a diet pepsi.  Does anyone drink carbinated drinks?  If so please share  your advice and experience with me.

Thank You,
Misty

My experience, at 18 months out, can be summed up in one word.....

OUCH!!!

I could only take a few sips before my pouch felt totally full of air.  Then a few hours later, the horrendous gas started as the bubbles made their way through.  Not everyone responds this way, as you will no doubt read, but that was my experience.

Good luck.
Ellen

Glad you brought this up.
This is one food and or liquid iten I miss more than anything.
I have tried a few sips but as Ellen says it fills the pouch and does not feel good.
OMG I miss carbonation like crazy but I can deal with it.

I was never much of a soda drinker before surgery and while I have tried a sip or two since surgery, I too find the carbonation to be too much for me now.  I would suggest that if you are really craving it and your doctor doesn't have a problem with you trying it, to go ahead and give it a try but just be prepared for how different it will probably be for you now versus before surgery.  Let us know how it goes!

I have had some here and there, but I can only drink a small amount, and I can't have it unless it's a fountain drink or poured into a cup to release some of the gas.

Hi Misty!!
I am 7 1/2 months out and YES I am guilty of drinking a Diet Mt. Dew almost daily!! I don't have any problems with it at all, the only thing is, it takes me all day to drink 1 can verses preop where I could kill a 2 liter within a day!! But yes I do and my pouchie does just fine, but I think I am one of the few that has a pouch of steeL!!!!  One thing, If you do fall into drinking Diet soda...DO NOT count any of it as your daily consumption!! Make sure you STILL drink your 64 oz  + of water!!
But I would definately start off slow and maybe not from a can or bottle that is freshly opened!!

Wow, you sure don't look like a "Misty"...LOL, LOL LOL!!

Everyone, meet my wife Misty, the love of my life and one of the reasons I hope to live way past 100,  I guess she hijacked my profile to ask a question!  You know, I hear that the discomfort from carbonated drinks can be relieved by increased "intimacy"  Anyone else hear of that???  Huh??  (help me out, please?)

Oh well HECK, maybe that is why I don't have a problem with the carbonation, LOL cuz the  intimacy has definately increased since my weightloss...LOL Hmmm..if that's the case then I say, YES YES IT DOES!!!! Heheheh!!

I fell back into this habit about 2 years PO... My advise to you is to not even think about it, it does make you gassy and kinda hurts... it also can stretch your pouch out.  I started when I was at a beach party and it was either that or beer (yuck!).  I used to drink it very very flat, but it still caused gas and some pain.  I'm working on cutting it out of my day now and it's very hard.  DON'T DO IT!!!!

 Take a hug instead!
