Dumping Syndrome

OMG I had my first and I hope my only dumping this morning. It's as bad as the doctor said it would be! Now I know what having a heart attack would feel like. It was brought on by me either eating to fast or trying to take my pills to quickly with the cream of wheat I had, but whatever it was I don't want that experience NO more! I was throwing up and I had the worst pain in my chest that went under my right breast and also in the middle of my back and yes I was crying and couldn't make it stop. After about 25 minutes it started letting up and I've not ate anything else yet and don't know if I want to but am trying to get a protein drink down. Anyway I hope no one else has to experience this because it is awful.

Thanks Darcie. Well I posted on the main forums also and they tell me that I wasn't dumping that I had something stuck like the pills and laying down didn't help with this issue, nothing did until it was over.

Hi Cindy,
I am wondering if what you went through was maybe having something get stuck.
When I have had something get stuck it feels like I am having a heart attack a very uncomfortable feeling in the middle of my chest.
When I dump it is usally a race to find a bathroom quickly.
What ever  you experinced will make you not want to have it happen again.

Your so right there Annie don't want this again. I think it was my pills that got stuck. I hate taking them because its a all day job if I spread them out.

Yup, that sounds like something was stuck., like Annie said.  I get that occasionally as well, usually because i didn't chew something well enough.  Sometimes you get the foamies with it, sometimes not.  For future reference, if it happens to be meat that's stuck, papaya enzyme might help it dissolve quicker.  You can buy it at Walmart, it's not too expensive, in the vitamin aisle.

Dumping is different for each of us, but usually involves diarrhea rather than throwing up.  It's when too much of something enters our bowels, or when we eat too much too quickly.  There is usually some nausea, sweating, heart palpitations, etc.  The intense pain you describe is more consistent with something being stuck.

Either way, I hope you don't have to experience that again.
Take care.

Thanks Ellen for the advice and I'll pick up some of the papaya enzyme.

I agree with Annie and Ellen.  I have only dunped once and it was because I accidentally drank sweet tea (put my splenda in before tasteing)  I got cramps, cold sweat, dizzy, and screaming poop. It only lasted about 30 min but I didn't drink much of the tea.
The foamies are always short and sweet with chest pain and a over full feeling. Relief is instant after I up-chuck the offending chunk. I know TOOOOOOO   MUch information. So remember.....eat slow and chew, chew, chew.
Good Luck and I hope you don't have this happen to you again any time soon.

Hi Cindy,

While what you experienced was undoubtedly uncomfortable and not something that you want to do again, it wasn't dumping. It sounds like you ate too much, too fast and got it stuck... and it doesn't take much to make that happen this early on. You might want to get some small demi-tasse spoons to use for a while because they are normally only about a 1/2 teaspoon in size to help you regulate the volume of what you are consuming. I know it might seem silly, but even with something like cream of wheat try to 'chew' 20 to 30 times. This allows the saliva to help mix with the food make make it more 'liquid.' If you don't you can have issues with it getting 'stuck' and that is what it sounds like happened to you. The reason that you are having a hard time with things getting stuck so easily right now is that your pouch is still VERY SWOLLEN. With time, the swelling will go down and this will become less of a problem, but it takes a number of weeks for the swelling to go down... so, go very slowly. This is a trial and error thing and it will take some time for you learn how much and what your baby pouch can handle. As it heals and matures, it will be able to handle more.
