Trust me after having this problem since birth I have done everything you can think of!! I NEVER watch them because that makes me freak out even worse. It hurts me so bad though I cannot think of a happy place or a calming thought... it literally burns and makes me want to scream!!! but I will think of James Dean LOL he always makes me go into a dream state thanks for the nice post though, I appreciate it!!

Hi Darcie,

I was thinking of you as I was driving through Richlands today. I had to drive down to pick up my sister who has been with her son and DIL since the death of their daughter last weekend. Norma was flying home out of RDU, so I drove down to pick her up and drove through Richlands on my way to Jacksonville and then back again.

While I was driving through I was thinking that I should contact you and be sure that you had someone to take you to and from your surgery since your DH is still deployed. I'm so glad that you have your friend Pam there to help you.

I'm glad that you have the first call Monday morning and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Just tell 'em that the need to get that gal that does your blood draws up there to handle the IV. LOL. Seriously, I hope that it goes well and gently.

Wishing you a safe, uncomplicated surgery ... and IV start, as well as smooth, gentle recovery.

Thanks Barb, you should of stopped by today, Ive been home all day long just cleaning house and getting things ready for when I get home You know we have a airport here just five min from my house... I hope your family is healing ok and thanks for the kind post.

I wish I'd had the time to stop. There were two bad accidents on the way down and I was actually running late when I arrived in Jacksonville around 1pm. Norma actually flew into ILM because my niece was at New Hanover when she lost the baby, but the flight home through Raleigh was only $100, instead of $400 out of Jacksonville, so I drove down to pick her up and bring to RDU. We literally swung by my home which is 10 mins from RDU so that she could see the house because she's never been here in the 8 yrs we've lived here and doesn't think that she's likely to be back ... She sees the kids when everyone flies to Dallas every year. The kids are healing physically and emotionally. They have their good days and bad, but it's a process. Thanks for asking about them.

I forgot that your family was down in Wilmington. I used to drive the 3 and a half hours to Raleigh to get the better airfare but for me the last six years its cheaper to fly out of Jacksonville and then on to Atlanta or Charlotte then to wherever we are going. Its nice to live so close to the airport My family, like yours lives in the Santa Cruz, San Jose and Sacramento area. The few that have come to visit came out one time and have never returned and I have been stuck out here since 1991. I hate North Carolina as much as they do and I dont blame them for not wanting to come out again. I just wish they would come visit but then again I understand their is absolutely NOTHING to do here. Not like home where you have unlimited fun things as much as your heart desires. Best of luck to you and your family

Another tip, Darcie - run very warm water over your hands or have a very warm washcloth.  It will help those baby veins jump up and try to stay as hydrated as possible on Sunday.  I know you will have to stop at midnight on Sunday night, but it can help.  And there is nothing wrong with asking for the best IV sticker available.... LOL
