Okay, since so many mentioned a Beach trip...... lets get some ideas in...

Myrtle Beach or Wilmington both sound good so to me it doesn't make a difference.   From the Charlotte area, i think Myrtle Beach is closer (from what i heard) but either one doesn't make a difference.  I think May would be a great time to go as it would already be getting warmer out but the huge crowds aren't there and the prices are usually lower i think. 

I have been at a resort like you describe above and they are awesome.   Keep us posted!

What everyone decides is fine.  My hubby and i will be there.   Think it would be awesome to get a big group of us together.   As long as we have plenty of advance warning so we can get off work and get dogs taken care of...it would be great.

THanks for taking the bull by the horns and proposing this. I also appreciate your getting pricing. It helps a lot and from previous events, it seems that if we are going to do a beach thing, most folks want to stay beachfront. I sure know that I do.

In all honesty, I'm much more likely to do one that on the NC coast just because of the cost of gas, time spent driving and the likelyhood we might have a few more north-western NC folks attend. I had talked with Melinda (ECUMindy) about trying to put something together, but I'd be glad to work with you or we can do separate events.

We've done this once before, with to be honest, less than stellar results. I guess the good thing that came from that was learning from the school of hard knocks.

It's not always as easy said as easy to done 'live' with folks that you only know virtually.

We had issues w/some folks 'flaking' out and leaving the rest of us holding the bag. There weren't that many left so the bag was kind of heavy, if you get my drift. So it would be best if did something that REQUIRES a non-refundable deposit so that we don't have that kind of an issue again.

We were talking about possibly doing a Friday, Saturday, Sunday event. Not all would have to participate all days. We probably would rent a condo, or two, or three... depending on interest.

Some of the things we did last time, that we might want to consider this time were

Clothes swap

Pot Luck Dinner

Walk on the beach

We could also see about some other activities, such as bowling, minature golf, Zumba dancing, things that might allow 'activity' for all levels of fitness.

We could do some scrapbooking since there seems to be quite a few scrapbookers

... not everyone needs do everything, we could pick and choose.

I have a survey tool that I can use to survey folks interests, dates, etc... I found that off-season rates are really very good and we could probably see about doing something this fall maybe late Oct or Early Nov. if people are interested. I can also use my meetup site to manage deposits, RSVPs, directions, etc...

Couldn't you set it up with the name of the resort, hotel or etc. and we call and make our own reservations and payment.   If a few ppl want to share, they can do this on their own.  This way no one ends up holding the bag for others.  

I know when i have gone to conferences or weddings, they book a block of room and then we call by a certain date and make our own reservations.    Would something like this work?

That idea certainly has merit. I depends on the type of facility. If we rent a condo, of course, that doesn't work as well and that's what we did last time. We'll need to look at the options.
