I am asking this question for a friend:  Does gastric bypass help with diabetes 1?  Thanks in advance!

Not like it does in type 2.

Losing weight, will of course, help with the severity, but it does not "cure" like it does Type 2.

Andrea,  Thanks for your reply.  I hate to hear that.  My friend is in her early/mid 30's and starting to have complications with her type 1 diabetes.

I have to say that I have been thinking of you and your friend who is battling cancer a lot.  I hope she is able to beat it.

Hi Shauna,

I have type I and had WLS about three months ago.  While it won't cure the type I loosing weight in general will help.  WLS may als allow your friend to come off of some meds (which the liver and kidneys need to process which makes them work harder).  For me, my biggest concern was that diabetics typically heal slower than people without diabetes, and that proved true for me.  I wish her the best and would be happy to talk if she needs a "buddy."

Jenn,  I am going to send your message to Kim on Monday.  Thank you so much for the info and the offer!
