Hello everyone!
Trying to get a few moments online before I have to run out the door again today!
We are still battling the sickies here at our house. So sorry to hear some of you are doing the same and I hope we are ALL better SOON!
Our lil' man missed Tuesday through Friday of school last week so I couldn't believe it when they called me to come get him early yesterday. He had gone into the tummy portion of the illness (yuck!) and woke us up at 1am this morning crying from sore throat again. I kept him home from school again today and toted him along to my PCP appointment this morning. She graciously took a look at E also and prescribed him an antibiotic. We are hoping that knocks this bug out! I am at the tale-end of it and am glad to finally be feeling somewhat better!
In the meantime, my little Maddie has also come up with an issue. I take her to the vet this afternoon. She has scratched a place on her cheek really bad so I'm sure he will prescribe an antibiotic and steroids for her. I've been doctoring it with hydrogen peroxide and Neosporin last night and today, but she just scratches everything off when I leave her unattended. You should see her...I put a gauze pad over the wound then loop a bunch of guaze all around her head and ears to hold it in place...which makes her floppy ears stick up so cute! She looks at me like, "Mommy, what the heck are you doing to me?!" hehehe Hopefully the doc will get her comfy a.s.a.p.
Good news... All of my paperwork is DONE as of yesterday and being submitted to the surgeon's office. I should hear from them within 10 business days about an appt. to meet with the surgeon. WOOHOO!
This weekend I am buying another round of new toothbrushes for us all and spraying down the entireplace with Lysol! What are ya'll going to be up to???
(OMG, the time!!! RUNNING out the door!!!)

Oh my gosh, Annie, your diagnosis was correct! Madeline indeed has a hot spot. My poor baby girl. The vet gave her a steroid shot and put her on an antibiotic along with Benedryl. I have antisceptic wipes to use daily and can use Neosporin/Hydrocortisone creams if I feel they are needed. She just took all her meds like a good girl for mommy, including her heartworm medication, and then she got a new treat. They were selling bags of them for the Stray/Needy Fund and Little Miss Picky seemed to like it. I hope this heals up soon. She was very aggressive at the vet today when he examined her so I know she is in pain.
YUMMY about the V8 soup! So glad you liked it! Gosh, I still haven't seen the V8 soups at our stores here but I must say I had forgot to really look. I wish I could have a big, hot bowl for dinner tonight. That sounds sooo good. I have been looking up how to make homemade cream soups for after I have surgery and wow, some of the recipes look divine. Really simple to make too so I'm hoping those soups will be a comforting staple for me eventually! I want to try making it with unsweetened soy milk in place of the milk and/or cream though.
Now to post about the paperwork saga. {sigh} It's not over yet!

Shauna,
For my cream soups I always us the Carnation Lite Canned Milk. It makes such a difference in the creamnest (is that a word???) of the soup. Just seems to be so rich. I never dilute it just pour it right in from the can. Make Cheesy Cream of Potato and Brocolli soup day before yesterday. I really need to get some arrowroot for thickening my cream soups instead of corn starch, but what the heck. I can only eat a little bit anyway.

Annie,
I am not a measurer (is that a word). I just toss in some butter or margarine to season. Dice up my potatos and just barely cover with water, simmer till tender. Salt and pepper to taste. Steam my broccoli til tender and chop it up pretty fine. Throw the chopped broccoli into the potatoe soup. Pour a can or two (depends on how big a pot of soup) in and thicken with a mixture of corn starch and water. Dump a bag of LF shredded cheddar and eat up!!

Mmmm. Ya'll are killing me with the creamed soups talk!
I would love to see your recipes too, Vera.
Here is the recipe that I have for Cream of Broccoli soup. It is vegan so you can use any non-vegan substitute you want to. You can also substitute any other vegetable for the broccoli (such as asparagus, carrots, cauliflower, celery, mushrooms, spinach, etc.) but use your discretion as to whether that vegetable needs sauteed first and/or how much to puree it. Hope that makes sense!
