Hair Loss!!

I will be 4 months out on the 6th of this month. I went for my 3 month appointment in Greenville a few weeks ago and my blood work came back fine other than still being a little deficient in Vitamin D. My biggist concern is my hair. Oh my go**** is falling out like crazy and I had relitively thin hair already. It is scaring me to death. Is there anything I can do to help this. I don't want to loose all of my hair.

Unfortunately, hair loss is *very* common.. it's a sign of stress.  Anesthesia, forced medical starvation, ketosis.. all are contributing factors.

Biotin will help.. so will zinc.  But it's a 3-month process.. If you do something today to stop the hair loss, you won't really see results for 3 months.

As for your D, did your doc put you on a supplement?  Vitalady.com has a water-miscible D that is more bioavailable to us fat-malabsorbers.. I can tell you that it's brought my D up fairly quickly.

Unfortunately...that's perfectly normal.  Like Andrea said, you can take some Biotin and it may or may not help.  From what I've heard, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen.  Mine was the worst between months 3-6 (that's pretty standard.)  Hang in there.  You won't lose it all & it will get better.

Hi Angel,

I'm afraid that Andrea is right about the fact that all of the stresses on your body are contributing to the loss and you are in the midst of the worst of it now. It tends to be worst from the 3rd to 5th months, easing in the 6th month. You can do biotin, zinc, etc., but according to the Nut and Dr's in my program there is no evidence that it helps or hurts. At about 6 months, whether you take the biotin, etc... or not, it will start getting better. I don't have any hair loss anymore and I never took biotin, zinc, or anything else. I did make sure to take my regular supplements and get plenty of protien.

Hang in there ... it's an unfortunate and common side effect, but relatively minor when you look at all the benefits we get in exchange ... not to minimize the distress, I was really distressed too, but it still was a trade worth making.

Hugs,

Barb

sad but very true hair loss does happen.
Mine is finally doing better but not thick and curly like it was.
I take 1000mcg of Biotin everyday.
I did buy a human hair wig when the hair loss was at its worst.
You will not loose all your hair but you will loose some.
I tell people I would rather be bald and fit than bald and fat.
