I'm home from the hospital!
Well I made it thru the weight loss surgery.I want to thank everybody who prayed and thought of me.Was in alot of pain on Monday from laying on the operating table, was up all night because I was really hot and sweating and they couldn't get me a fan. I came home yesterday afternoon. I'm doing good, just real sore and my blood sugars are staying up in the 200 and 300's and I guess its from all the fluids they were pumping into me on Monday. My throat is real sore from the breathing tube they had in me and I am really swollen and the doctor said I had about 20 lbs extra of fluid in me and believe me I look like I'm 9 months pregnant. So don't be shocked when you see the pictures. I refuse to get on the scales because I know if I do I'm going to be depressed this is the biggest I've ever been in my life. The doctor says it will be gone by Monday when I go have my staples taken out.The surgery took about 3 hours and I have 7 cuts instead of the normal 6 and he said I had alot of scar tissue from my C-section that he had to move around.I'm still on the clear liquid diet until tomorrow then I start the full liquid diet and my protein drinks. I'm suppose to be getting in 2-4 ounces of clear fluids every hour but let me tell you its hard and I'm not even hungry. So getting in the fluids and trying to get up is the worst of the surgery so far.Yvonne is being a great help to me and I'm thankful for that.Okay well need to try and rest some now. Will catch up with you later.
Hugs,
Cindy
You'd never have believed it would be hard to get in the 2-3 oz. of fluid an hour - would you? Please, please, please make sure you come as close to it as you possibly can. You do not want to get dehydrated. Getting up will only get easier.
Keep walking and sipping.

No I never thought this would be so hard. I've had about 4 ounces since 5:30am and trying to get some jello now. Its been hurting a little bit trying to get my pills in. I feel 100 % better than I did Monday. I slept in my bed last night and that was rough and woke up with a lets just say a mess in my bed from the gas problem. I'm sure each day will get easier.

Hi Cindy,
I'm sorry that you are dealing with so much fluid retention, but be sure to get up and walk and to sip, sip, sip as much as possible. Even with retaining so much fluid you can easily become dehydrated very quickly. It is one of the most common reasons people are readmitted after they leave the hospital. Soooo, even though you aren't hungry and don't want to have another sip, just do it. It will hold you in good stead.
Welcome to the Loser's Bench my dear!

It is so good to see your post! Your experience sounds A LOT like mine. It took dr. mann an extra hour in surgery to remove my intestine from the scar tissue due to my c-section 29 years ago. I had a "problem" the day after my swallow test in the hospital. What a mess!!!! You are doing a wise thing by staying off the scale. Concentrate on getting well not on what the scale says.

It sounds like things went well. The aches and pains are all normal (not that it makes it any easier to deal with.) I remember feeling extra huge when I got home too. I think I gained 11 pounds in the hospital, but your Dr is right...it'll come off really quick, it's just because of all of the fluids they pump you up with.
Keep on sipping, and walk when you can!
