Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Shelli,

We'll be doing a clothing exchange at our next meeting in October. Come bring some of your bigger things and get a few smaller ones. I have become a fast fan of thrift and consignment stores. They've been a huge help. I've been able to find some that carry plus sizes. As a matter of a fact, we'll be GoodWill Hunting ... meaning, shopping consignments and thrifts after the monthly meeting in October.

I'll be glad to share with you the ones that I know of... Get a few things, but realize that as the lady from GW used to tell me, I was only borrowing them for a little while ;-)

I tended to get things that fit and rarely bought things that were too small at the time. I guess I just didn't 'trust' that I'd get much smaller. I think I'm at the bottom of my sizes now, since I wear a 4/6 in pants and generally an 8/10 in tops or dresses, but just yesterday I bought a lovely silk Jones of NY blouse in a size 6 from GW for all of 3.39! WooHoo!

Enjoy the ability to find more things ... it gets better and better!

You and I are starting at the same size in clothing. I just went "officially" into size 22 this past week. the 24's and 26's are just too big. My favorite boutique is now the thrift shop. (Hey - it used to be Wal-Mart). I can't imagine ever being smaller than an 18 since that's what size I was wearing when I started Jr. High BUT apparently my Mom, Niece and step-Sister see some potential for me to be smaller and all of them cleaned out their closets this past weekend. I keep a closet at my Mom's house that is full of the smaller size stuff. So I went from having no jeans to probably 6 pairs of 20's, 6 pairs of 18's, a ton of 15/17's, a huge stack of 16's and a handful of 14's. They also gave me coats, dresses, skirts & sweaters.

It was very overwhelming to me to be given clothes. I've always been the one to donate the hand me downs. Never once growing up did I get to be the receiver or play dress up at a friend's house. I really didn't realize until this past weekend that I had such deep seated issues with clothing.

I've found 2 local thrift shops that I love and plan on donating my cast offs to them. One sponsors the local animal shelter and the other helps fund a battered women & childrens shelter. Both very worthy causes and very well priced.

Happy Thrifting.

Hi Shelli,

Hmmm - well I know exactly what your going through and it is a challenge.  Here is the problem.  Most of us well me for sure... when I was larger, my clothes were tighter on me.  And most larger clothes are built with stretch in them.  So, I found that I could wear my bigger clothes longer than I could when I started getting smaller.  Also, I could wear my shirts longer than I could my pants, because we are use to shirts that are baggier than a tight fit.   So, if you get pants, buy them tight.  In 2 weeks they will fit perfect.  I would buy clothes that fit and then by the time I got around to wearing them, they were to big, still with the tags on them, and I would have to return them.    So my advice is buy the cheapest thing around wear it all the time and then buy something new when you need it.  Seriously, you will not be in a the same size for more than a month if that.  Sometimes I would go down a size in 2-3 weeks.

Now here are the things that we forget that will shrin****il they fall off of us.

1. underwear - I had baggie but for a while till I bought new undies
2. bra - went from a 38D to a 34B and my husband thinks I am an A
3. Rings - Had to get them re sized too... make sure you put those wedding rings away and go and buy a cheap band while your loosing weight.  It will save you money when they fall off your finger...
4. Shoes - I went from a 10 to a 8.5 - we never think about this one
5. socks - well they go with the feet
6. pajamas - I never thought that a one size fits all would be to big.....
7. glasses - believe it or not.. but my glasses were to big for my face.. had to get new ones.
8. necklaces - they became to long on me and I had to find shorter ones
9. gloves - yep - our hands shrink too
10. cars - OK - your going to think I am crazy... but my Suburban became to big and I could not see over the steering wheel.... yep - our bootie makes us sit higher and once that is gone... we seem to shrink behind the wheel...  so I got a smaller car and that did the trick... also helped on the gas issue too.

Hope this helps!

Happy Shrinking!!!!!!!!!

Kendall - This list made me laugh out loud!!  Especially #10....

I still have several things in my closet and when I am not working, I am mostly a home body, so sweat pants work for me right now.  I am looking forward to being able to go anywhere and be able to find something that will fit and look good, too.

Thanks for sharing

You guys will do great!  Just keep at it and the weight will keep falling off...  I had my one year appointment at Duke this week and I came in at 140 pounds.  They said that I should loose another 10 pounds... however they wanted me to come back in 6 months to make sure I have not lost to much..... I was like... to much... OMG - that would be so cool if I did...  LOL

Replying late - I have been busy at work and in the evenings.

I have been going to Wally World, Kmart and Target.  Kmart has had some good deals, and Kohls had a good sale.

I only pay 10-12 dollars for pants and 9-10 for tops.
