What vitamins should I be taking at 8 weeks out?  My doctor only mentioned a multi-vitamin, calcium, and B.
I was also on Ferrous Sulfate before surgery, should I start back on that?  A bit worried because I've had a VERY heavy period for about 4 of the last 8 weeks.  I'm supposed to have an ablasion done in November.  Also, I take a Vitamin D gel cap one time her week, but what am I hearing about Dry D?  What is that?
Shouldn't I also start sublingual B?  I bought sublingual liquid today and it was gross!!!  Now one more thing...what B should I be taking? 12, 6, complex???
Good lord I need a nutrition course just to survive this surgery!!!!

Michelle,

Contact your Dr. and let him know of your concerns. Ask him about your supplimentation regimen and if it needs to be augmented to support the concerns you have. I'd also ask him about taking things such as Dr D, Sublingual B, etc... Ask to speak to his nutritionist and ask his nut about his depth of experience with Bariatric patients and their short and longterm supplimentation needs. While it is true that there are some Dr's who just do the surgery and pat you on the back on your way out, many are very good and do quite a bit of ongoing research re: the dietary and supplementation needs of their patients. I believe that the Dr you have is one who provides significant support.

Wishing you all the best,

Barb

The ASMBS recomends the following for all bariatric surgery patients:

2 adult multivites
1500-2000mg calcium citrate
300-500mcg b-12
1 b-complex
and at least 27mg elemental iron for pre-menopausal women

Of course, labs are key to determine what you need more or less of.  I need  a *ton* of iron.. you may not.  That's just one of those things you'll have to tweak as you get your labwork done.

Michele,
Diane or Ruth should be giving you that information. They always ask when you have your monthly appointment what you are taking. They will be happy to tell you. :) You should really be chatting with them. It's great to get information from people on here, but you really should also be talking to them. You're looking great..... woooooooo hooooooooooooooo

Made it to ONDERLAND!!!!!!!
