Lap RNY means the procedure is performed laparoscopically vs. open.  Lap leaves you with 5 or 6 tiny little scars vs. one big scar.  The surgery doesn't open up your whole belly that way.  Some surgeons do both, some only do open.

Not sure what you mean by "all that bad".  It's major surgery ... can be very bad.  But everyone recovers differently.  Personally, I'm a nurse and I only took 1 week off work.  My recovery was great.  But someone else with my same job function and responsibilities may need to take 6 weeks off.  It just depends on the individual.  It is MAJOR abdominal surgery and not just an outpatient procedure, so taking several weeks off is very understandable.

Surgery NOT all that bad??? UM have you heard the part where big tools are used your guts are completely cut and rearranged?? There is definately time needed to heal!! It is a VERY serious and major surgery!!  And it really depends on the individuals pain tolerance!! But overall, the recovery time, until you really start feeling yourself again is 2 to 3 weeks!!
I personally was test driving bicycles in the Bike Depot parking lot at 2 weeks post op!! But that is me, the next person may be completely different!!  If you DO not allow for the necessary recovery time, then that is where complications will occur!! I recommend to do much more research on this procedure before taking your big steps!! Best of luck to you!!

No question is a dumb question, cuz you would never know unless you asked!!
