At 16 months out I had my first SERIOUS Dumping episode...

Ohhhhh Barb, I'm so sorry you had that happen.  I'm really surprised that it happened with walnuts though, they are so good for us.  Maybe next time, mix them with some other nuts and see how you do with them.  Just goes to show others, we continue to learn, even months and years out!

It might be a while before I try any nuts. I just don't understand it ... I've had walnuts before without incident. Who knows?

Thanks for the support.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Thanks Shelli! You are right. It is still taking a while to manage the uncertainty ... I thought I had it down, but that just goes to show you.

P.S. I have a friend who is considering using Dr. Enoch. Would you refer your friend to him? Pro's, Con's ...

Wow Barb, how unsettling!

I'm like you - I've had the food coma, some foamies, etc...but have never experienced dumping syndrome.  I guess I should be saying I haven't experienced dumping syndrome yet.  :(  Gosh, just when you think you know how your body is going to handle things, and then to have it with walnuts?  There isn't even any sugar in them, is there?  How odd.  Well...next time you have nuts (I'm sure you'll try them again someday) - it'll have to be an "at home trial event".

Glad you're OK.

Hi Deb,

Thanks for the well wishes. I think you are absolutely right ... more than the dumping experience itself, I think the fact that I thought I 'knew' how my body handled things and realized that I don't is what I find unsettling.

Ben asked if the walnuts coated with sugar or honey, but they weren't. They were just plain old walnuts. Who would have guessed. That said, someone else on my Surgiversary Board said she experienced the same thing with Almonds today. I think I'll be steering clear of nuts for while. Darn it! I really like 'em too. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get brave and stick my toe in the water again, but like you suggested, maybe I'll make sure I'm at home first.

I hope to see you again soon.

Hugs,

Barb

Were they black walnuts..... I don't know for sure but they taste like they have more fat in them. That concerns me...I LOVE nuts. I keep thinking about that.

Hi Myrtis,

While it's possible that the fat content of the walnuts played a part, I have to tell you that I've had quite a few meals that have had much higher fat contents without this kind of reaction. I'm going to keep digging and it I find out anything I'll let you know.
