At 16 months out I had my first SERIOUS Dumping episode...
I have had issues with food comas, where you feel awful, then get sleepy and literally sleep off the effects of the food you consumed. I've dealt with foamies when you eat something that gets stuck. I've eaten too much, too fast and felt awful and thrown up, but I've never, ever had THIS happen. I had a little less than 1/4 cup of coarsely chopped walnuts and OMG!!! I started feeling uncomfortable, it went from uncomfortable to awful. I was at an ATM machine and nearly passed out. I got to the restroom just in time. I never thought I'd die, but I was clammy, shakey, cramping, and having terrible diareah. From start to fini**** was about 45 minutes, but the really rough ride was about 15 to 20 minutes. Afterwards, I was really tired, but started to feel more 'normal.'
Nuts have been a staple for me, a common snack that I've had several times a week. I normally have peanuts, almonds, pecans or once in a while walnuts, but I've never had anything like this happen. It may be a while before I try them again. I'm not sure why this was a problem. I had higher fat items before and I've had a higher sugar items before without incident. I have to say that it was pretty un-nerving. I would have understood it better if I had been messing around with candy or something else more treacherous. I guess this requires a really long-term learning curve and when you think you've got it down, you just might be surprised.

Actually, I had my 14 year old daughter with me. If I hadn't turned the corner, she would have called dad.
I'm glad to be feeling better too!

I'm fine ... really. It was just un-nerving because I'd had nuts on numerous occasions without incident. I guess I thought I was on safe ground and felt like I was on an icy lake that was cracking instead.
I am okay. Thanks so much for asking. I don't think that dumping is really dangerous. It just feels awful... definitely not something that I'd want to knowingly cause to happen again. That's the thing that made it unsettling. I'd successfully had nuts so many times before w/out incident and then this time BAM! I hope I don't have that happen again with something else that's been fine before and then all of sudden isn't okay.
Thanks for you concern,
Barb

Thanks Ann... I'm sure that everyone gets through, I just hate having to do it and hope to avoid doing so again.
How are you doing? I hope that this finds you well.

Myrtis
Hi Myrtis,
I thought of you as the wave started to roll over me. The thing that makes me uncomfortable is that I am sure it was the nuts. I hadn't had anything else, excep****er, so there isn't anything else it could be. I guess what reallly makes me uncomfortable/nervous is that I've had nuts many times before w/o a problem, then BAM!
While I knew that I had some minor dumping before with 'food coma' type reactions, I'd never had this full blown dumping syndrome before and was hoping I had dodged that bullet. Oh well. I just wish I knew how to tell what would cause it. I'm going to call my Nut. and see what he has to say.
