Dr. Villanueva from Charlotte?
I am wondering if anyone has had interactions with Dr. Ian Villanueva. He did a 3 year fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center and did many bariatric procedures, I guess as an intern or something.
He has now moved to Wichita and is starting his own practice, and I am wondering if there are any opinions about him out there.
Thanks!

Hi Mendee!
He was a fellow with the practice my surgeon is with. I met him while Dr. Kuwada was doing cancer surgery for my sister. He assisted Dr. K with her surgery, which was a very challenging colon cancer surgery. My sister is 400+ pounds and they managed to complete the surgery laparoscopically, which is in itself a miracle, and that she survived the surgery, another miracle. My opinion is that he is competent in his technique, although I question his sensitivity toward the obese. I didn't like his attitude toward my sister, so I (being no shrinking violet!) pulled him aside and gave him a piece of my mind, telling him just because she was SMO didn't mean that she was a "throw away" person, and that she was valued by a lot of people and he'd better understand that! After that, he was nothing but nice to her.
I would go to an appointment and make your own impressions. He trained under Dr. Kuwada, so he had the absolute BEST teacher....the bedside manner is the only thing I'd have any reservations about.
Hope this helps!
