First of all, I want to thank all of you "talked me down" the other day. I am feeling much better and my head is in the right place again. All of the posts, PMS , one surprise phone call, and straight forward advice helped me stop the "crazy cycle!"  SO, while I still am CONSTANTLY thinking what if, I feel it is a little more healthy.THANK YOU!!

This is an emotional journey, isn't it?

OK, anywhoo, I met with my Doc today, and told her that I was going for the surgery again. She was SOOOO supportive and said if anyone was ready, that I was!

*but* bad news, It is confirmed that I have Type 2 diabetes. YIKES.... If NOTHING else, this is a sign that I am definitely making the right choice. I can't keep collecting diagnosis's with each visit I take to the doc...

So she is going to write me an enthusiastic letter and even gave me her opinion on a great surgeon!

Here I go!!!

Well everything is looking up.  Sorry to hear about your diabetes and just think, the surgery is a way to get rid of it.  Good Luck to you.

Kim,

I'm glad you're back in the right frame of mind again...  Any surgery is scary but if there is any doubt just let us know, we'll do what we can to get you back!  I'm glad things went well with your Doc.  As for the type 2 diabetes, at least you know you have it and for now you'll need to stay on top of it - after WLS you'll probably never have to deal with it again.  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 9 months prior to WLS but the week after my surgery my levels were wonderful.  Not to mention the high blood pressure, high cholestrol, acid reflux, heart problems and my knee and back aches!!!

I wish you the best of luck, keep us posted please!!!  I'm excited for you!

If this helps any my surgery was smooth sailing. I was talking to my doctor as he was flipping through my chart in the set up room and then woke up seemingly a minute later in recovery. I have had little pain considering and though I do need the pain meds some it just isn't that bad. I have/had type II diabetes and may get to give up my metformin forever. While here in the hospital they are checking my sugars due to the glucose drip I am on and admisistering a small dose of insulin about evry 4 hours and the numbers are getting lower and lower. The doses are smaller and smaller too. What is intersting is they do this for all surgical patients with or without diabetes so I am confident this will resolve mine. I get to go home tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but I'm sure that it will resolve with your surgery.

I have to tell you that you are so very right, this is an incredibly emotional journey, but it is sooooo worth it.

Hang in there.

All the best,

Barb

Kim,  I'm relieved that you're relieved...for the time being.  lol  If you are anything like me, you will have more than one freak-out during your wait...and we will be here to love you through it!    It IS an emotional journey.  I've said more than once that I'm glad there is quite a bit of a wait before actual surgery since it's really given me time to work through a lot of emotional stuff.  But boy, I'm ready to get the show on the road now...I've had enough of the emotional crap!  ha!

I'm so glad you have such a supportive PCP.  I love mine too and it is such a comfort knowing I have her support regarding RNY.  Hate to hear you have Type 2 diabetes, but it is definitely the proof you needed to know you ARE on the right track!

Here you go!!!!!!

I took my last diabetes medication the morning BEFORE my surgery.  I actually took the dust covered bottles out of the medicine cabinet today and threw them away.
