IVC Filter in place.
Hi Cindy,
I'm sorry that you are sore, but I'm glad that the procedure went well. As Annie said, hers caught a significant embolism that would have likely killed her if she had not had the filter, so a bit of discomfort is probably well worth the discomfort. I know that not all surgeon's use them routinely, but understand that under the right cir****tances they are truly lifesavers.
Wishing you some rest and a safe surgery.
All the best,
Barb

Hi Jeff,
Yes I was awake as well but a little doped up so I really didn't care lol. Now they were telling me the risk I could have with the filter before they did it and I was thinking I don't want to hear all this lol. They said if it moved and ended up in my chest they would have to do open heart surgery and the risk of infection and then when I go back to get it taken out and they can't get ahold of it then they will leave it and I was like enough already lol. I already have an port cath in and don't need something else hanging around. So they put yours in before surgery? I was their first patient that they have did a week ahead of time, and he said my doctor only requested the filters for his high risk patients. I also had a blood clot in my leg in 2001 from taking birth control pills so like I told Annie in her post I'm glad my doctor is smart enough to take precautions. Thanks for the good luck wishes for my wls on Monday. I think I'm more scared of being in pain than anything else.

Hi Cindy,
I had a blood clot in my leg after knee surgery 14 years ago, so my Dr want to put this in as a precaution. That is fine with me, better safe than sorry. with my wls I am not so worried about the pain as I am the couple of hours at the hospital before they take me to the or, I am always ready to jump out of my skin just waiting around like that.
Take care Jeff

Hey Jeff,
Yeah I know what you mean with waiting around. I think I read you had to wait 4 hrs after getting the filter put in, well they only made me wait about an hour and told me I could go home but I was there for 2 hrs before they even started. I'm one of those people who wants to be up and at it if I feel like it but hate it when I know someone is telling me I can't do this or that. Well good luck with your surgery and keep me informed on how your doing.
