Still Figuratively "Pouring" Here!

But I'm doing as my daughter says and I'm dancing in the rain!!!

The latest saga is that my PCP's office would NOT accept that I became their patient in September 2002.  They were swearing my first visit was December 2005.    That meant I have 4 years of missing medical records that they would not admit to misplacing.

After two days of phone calls, office visits, etc., today I finally dug into all of our old tax files from 2003-2004...which were the years that I needed that were missing.  Low and behold, THERE were the receipts, insurance claims, even my tabs from my prescriptions with my PCP's name and office on everything!!!

Hubby left work (he is on commission and has lost quite a bit of $$$ trying to battle this with me), made the 20 minute drive to the dr.'s office to meet me there, papers in hand.  Normally a VERY laid back and easy going guy...oh man...he was on a warpath.  I told him when I got there, "I am good cop, you are bad cop.  Bad cop is to be quiet until good cop cannot make a dent with diplomacy...then I will turn things over to you."

So my hubby, who normally pulls off the big ol' teddy bear look, waltzes in with me with the big ol' burly mean look.

We were taken back to a conference room to meet with the office manager and I explained that I KNOW when I became their patient and here were the records to help back that up.  What we needed from them, printed out on letterhead and signed by the dr. no less, was the admission that YES, I was a patient from Sept. 2002-December 2005, that they have lost my records, and that I was morbidly obese during that time (I had prescription tabs for Xenical and other proof that they had seen me for weight issues!).

In minutes flat, I finally had what I needed, along with profuse apologies.

~~~ I would like to dedicate this post to my awesome husband who would walk to hell and back for me.    I also want to give kudos to my OCD, which without, I would not have had all those records to take as proof.   ~~~  hehehe
HOWEVER, when we went to fax (ourselves!) the letter we got today along with the letter of referral and my latest thyroid test results...we realized that the letter of referral states in it that I have been a patient since December 2005.    We cannot have that discrepancy!
Back to the dr.'s office I went.  When I walked in I told them, "I so do not want you all to cringe everytime I walk through this door!!!  I cannot thank you enough for helping me to satisfy my insurance company's requirements so I can have this surgery!!!  ...  "  They held up cross signs and we all cracked up.
So, I am now waiting on them to call me to come pick up the new and improved referral letter.
I will be so glad when this is all over!!!  Anything worthwhile is worth fighting for, right???!!!
100 gold stars to you Shauna for staying on top of this.
First You Go Girl, Good for you standing up for yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
I do feel your pain. I totally understand your pain. We expect our medical professionals to keep our medical records and know what is going on. I am so glad that I was able to get my medical records from the old MD practice that is now closed. I went to this same MD since early 80's. I never thought about needing those old records. I have a very low tolerance to medication so it was fun to read thru those medical records and find out what kind of reaction I had had to some medications years ago.  The same medications that my current MD is trying to prescribe. Haa. Now I can say look thru my medical records- I took this years ago and this is what happened.
Annie hit the nail on the head, as I also like to think that we do battle that others won't have to... we are blazing the trails in this area, I am afraid.  You are one helluva pioneer, woman, and I salute you!
Be sure to be documenting all of this in your profile or some other way so that you can look back on this...When you are a year, two or three out from your surgery, because I absolutely believe it will happen and you will want to remember all of what you did to get there.
Hugs,
Barb
