Now I am really scared and petrified!!!!! Melting Mama (she posts on the main board a lot) had a youtube video response to a question someone asked her....Do you regret your gastric bypass?  SHE SAID YES!!!! and went on to explain. This is not good to hear for someone who is doing it next Monday!!!! I'm freaking out. You can get to it by clicking the link below and scrolling down to the first "Do you regret your gastric bypass?"

Let me preface my comments by saying that I am only 4.5 months out of surgery... and Melting Mama's problems didn't begin until 18 months out.  So I MAY have problems in the future.

However, I ABSOLUTELY had problems in the present without the surgery.  I had Lap RNY on 4/23 and to date it was the best decision I've ever made.  You can click on my account to read more, but I feel better than I ever have in my entire life.

I will admit, though, that I pay attention to Melting Mama and to Andrea U as they have very wise advice and suggestions -- and they will be the first ones I go to if a problem does arise.

Good luck with your surgery!  Laura

I agree with Laura - I'm so glad I had surgery and yes there is always the potential for problems from here on out. BUT - BUT - BUT had I not had the surgery I was certainly going to have problems. It wasn't  just the potential for problems but the continuation of problems - the diabetes, the high blood pressure, the shortness of breath, the bad kness, hips and other joints. That's just the one's that I already knew about.

Any surgery has risks - but so does avoiding surgery. It's time to do some soul searching and decide what's best for you in the long run (If you haven't done this already). We're here if you need to talk it through.

Good Luck and God bless - whatever the decision.

No I do not regret it and I watched her video and all I have to say is ALL SURGERIES have side effects and risks! all surgeons go over what could happen if.... some people gain all the weight BACK, some get sick, some have intestine problems ect ect. She said she got talked out of having lap band, Im sorry but no one forced me to have RNY... Lap band at the time was not covered by my insurance but RNY was. Now lap band is covered and I was going to do lap band and just self pay but Im soooo glad I didnt because I would out eaten the band and cheat like crazy, I have no control around sweets so RNY was the best decision FOR ME. Dont let her video scare you, don****ch it anymore, think positive!! I will be one year out in a few days and I would do it again in a heart beat! best of luck to you!!

I am 6 months out and the only regret I have is the fact that I didn't do it several years ago and that I had gained more and more weight before the decision.  I ended up with 40 some extra pounds to lose on top of what I already needed to  because I put the decision to have the surgery off.

Do I regret that I have lost 75 pounds so far - NO
Do I regret being off my diabetes meds and having my diabetes in remission - NO
Do I regret being off my blood pressure meds - NO
Do I regret being off my cpap (for sleep apnea) - NO
Do I regret having more energy than I have in years - NO
Do I regret felling better than I have in 10 or more years - NO
Do I regret feeling and looking like normal person again - NO
Do I regret being able

I saw her post also and the you tube video.  It did make me think.  BUT!   Like you all have said, I'm dealing with life threatening illnesses like diabetes, HTN and possible sleep apnea.  I've worried for a few years now about the potential health risk of diabetes and HTN and what it could do to me and my family.  The risk of loosing my eyesite, limbs and life certainly outway the risks of WLS.  With everything comes a risk and the way I'm eating and not excercising is just as much of a risk to my health.  I look forward to the day of feeling better and my joints taking a lighter load.

No one can make this decision for you, but right now for me it's a no brainer.

I'm still in the process of just getting all of my appointments scheduled.

Good luck to you.

Hey Deborah.  Just to let you know.  Three days after my surgery I was off my blood pressure and diabetes medications. That was 8 pills.  I feel great and have more energy than ever. Today I went shopping and bought a size 6 petite dress. I was in size 26 when I had the surgery at 256 pounds.  I would love to be your angel while you go through the process and then have the surgery.  It's the best thing I ever did.  Talk to you soon, I hope.

I'm also only 6 months out so it's difficult to say if I will have issues in the future, but I will say at this point, I DO NOT regret any decision I have made regarding my WLS.  I've seen the video, and several of her others, and I occasionally read her blog.  She is very knowledgeable and raises many good points about side effects of the surgery that don't get mentioned very often.  I will say, however, that I think her issues are the exception and not the rule.  I know MANY people who are 3-4 years+ out of surgery and are doing well.  I think when everyone has given their opinion and you have read every blog and web site, the decision ultimately rests with you.  Good luck to you.

I am finally a week away from my surgery and I have found that when I see some of the possible things that can go wrong I feel like I am arming myself with information as to what to watch for. Yes its a little scary but what scares me more is losing a limb to diabetes complications or going blind. And frankly I would rather take a bunch of healthy food suppliments several times a day than insulin injections and tons of pills for diabetes and heart disease and GERD all the time. And I want to wear normal size clothes and do normal things like walk up stairs and fly on airplanes comfortably etc. My health and quality of life is what I am aiming for and I think I can get that this way.

No regrets yet...just VERY disappointed :(
At over 6 months out, my weight loss has been minimal. With Lap Band, it's all about the elusive restriction. I'm hoping to find it soon as I'm really getting up there with the amount of fill I have in my band. Thought I had it (restriction) only to be fooled again! I will seek out a revision surgery @ my 1 yr anniversary if I am still in the same boat as I am now.
Sorry to be a "Debbie Downer" but this is my reality.
